Knee pain???

Hi, I have noticed lately that my knees hurt me very much and the pain is very severe. Is this joint pain that many Crohnies suffer from or is it a side effect of one of the medicines? I'm tapering pred, 2.5 mg every other day, Entocort 6 mg, MTX weekly im injection and Pentasa tablets2g. I also take Nexium 80 mg, an anti -ulcer drug, folic acid, B shots and a multivitamin. Also, in 2011, my Crohn's developed: proctitis, anal stenosis and EN. So, I'm just wondering is this a new manifestation of Crohn's or just a side effect?

Minnie, like the previous poster said, there are joint problems associated with inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's and UC). about 25% of IBD patients get joint pain. It's not really possible for us to say what your knee pain is from, but it's certainly possible that it's part of your illness. My main recommendation if you are having joint pain is to go see a rheumatologist. While GIs know that joint pain can come with IBD, they are not often skilled in analyzing it or treating it. A rheumatologist should be able to help you figure out what's going on.

Weaning off prednisone sometimes causes joint pain. Other than MTX, the drugs you're taking don't look like joint pain sources. I don't know about MTX.

For years, joint pain was my main complaint. My rheumy did a lot of tests to eliminate all of the autoimmune arthritis diseases, and we have finally concluded that I have enteric arthritis, or arthritis that comes from GI disease. We are still trying to figure out if the pain I have in my lower back and hips is ankylosing spondylitis or not (I think not). My rheumy just last week reminded me that I need to consider biologic meds to address my hip/SI pain if the MRIs I have next week show inflammation there.

My GI prescribed sulfazine to me a couple of years ago. It is an old arthritis med that was shown to be effective in controlling joint pain and bowel disease. Before I started taking it I had terrible pain in my hands - the sulfazine took care of that. My knee and SI pain did not get better with the sulfazine. My knee pain has gotten a lot better since I eliminated gluten from my diet. My SI still hurts. a lot.

I've gone from being the Kidneystone king to the joint pain king! For years, this has been my number one complaint. In my case, if its not from Osteo, it will move from joint to joint, sometimes effecting 1 side of my body leaving the other untouched.
Unfortunately, I have'nt found anything that helps except time and (yuck) prednisone. I'm currently on Celebrex & Lyrica, plus Ultram. The first is usually TOO expensive to get in the USA without very good insurance..

And @ Matthew - have you tried sulfazine and/or a gluten free diet? I hated waking up with a sore hand, and then a few hours later it would be fine and the other hand would flare up. Infuriating! I got real relief from sulfazine, and later from gluten free.
