This really isn't for me, thankfully.  I have a family member (wife, shh, don't tell her) with pretty severe hemmies, and recently discovered fissure with them.  Has anyone had surgery/banding for either of these conditions.  The laser ablation was done on them years ago but they didn't stay gone.  I would like to learn what to possibly expect so I can pass it along.  She wants off this "E" ticket ride.  Thanks in advance.

Haven't had the banding/surgery but maybe worth trying a bidet attachment for the toilet? Made all the difference in the world for me, and actually healed things.
Hope the "family member" gets some relief soon.

I had the banding for internal ones and it worked really well. Took 3 treatments that weren't very bad at all. Had some initial dull pain the first day of my first banding, but that was all. I was told by me GI that some external ones can be treated by banding because it stops the blood flow from the inside and the outer ones can shrink from that.

Well I had what they thought was hemmies but were actually perianal crohn's skin tags and got them banded (due to the fact they were misDX as being hemmies) and have been in hell with my CD ever since...20 yrs ago now...and I also had fissures on/around them as well.

I strongly suggest your wife see a colon/rectum surgeon, or at least 3 different ones to rule them out as perianal crohn's skin tags and be 100% positive they are in fact hemmies before she lets anyone touch them surgery wise...and if they are hemmies and she successfully gets rid of them, there is no guarantee that she won't get more at some point.

Good luck and please google pics of perianal crohn's skin tags as there is a difference between them and hemmies unfortunately though, a lousy specialist won't know the difference (like in my unfortunate case) and may just go ahead and do unnecessary surgery on them if they're not hemmis and make matters worse for your wife....the other reason I suggest more than just one specialists opinion.

I use Vicks Vapor rub for my hemmies and skin tags. Immediate relief from swelling. I swear by it.

Thanks all.  They are hemmie as stated by 2 different doctors.  Vicks?!?!?!?  Doesn't it burn?  I will have to pass along these suggestions

Yah, vicks would burn if she has fissures as well....for the record, I had 4 different docs tell me I had hemies too, only to find out at the most crucial moment that they were not, after I had my perianal crohn's skin tags treated like hemmies *having them banded while they were in a horrible flare*....alls I'm sayin is tread with caution...best of luck to your wife.

Vicks is warm, but so worth it to get the swelling down and the bleeding stops. personal choice, but I won't go without it, just saying.....

Got it and got it.  Didn't mean to seem to question, but the vicks idea took me by surprise.  What ever made you try it?

Well the fissure was pronounced healed and one of the major hemmie banded internally this past week.  He did it right in the office when she asked about it.  So back to that question, how long does it take for the band to do it's job, give or take?
