Only symptom is delayed growth

My nearly 13 year old has recently been diagnosed with Crohn's. All testing started because she seemed to fall off the growth curve (noted at last well-check after being 50 - 75th percentile for height and weight since birth.) We started with growth hormone tests first ... All okay there. Blood work showed inflammation indicators, but no anemia or other deficiencies. Stool showed no blood. Upper/lower GI showed minor inflammation of ilium. Endoscopy/Colonoscopy confirmed showing inflammation. Biopsies "consistent with Crohn's."
Another dr. friend is doubting diagnosis partly because of lack of gastro-related symptoms.
Anyone have a similar story or thoughts on other diagnosis?

If you have doubts, keep pressing for more information. A Complete Stool Kit can provide a wealth of information. Searching for bacterial infections is becoming part of the protocol where I live as a necessity before diagnosing Crohn's and, possibly, using medications that may do more harm. This is a great website to find people who have been thru the process recently. I wish you the best of luck. We will be pulling for you.

My son has had Crohn's since kindergarten and it did start with weight loss.  He didn't complain of pain but said he was not hungry frequently.  Then we noticed he wasn't growing.  His GI symptoms started a little bit after we noticed the lack of growth.  So I believe you have caught this in an early phase, which is good.  If you had let it go I'm sure you would see more GI symptoms.

I was first diagnosed with Crohn's around the age of 13 as well. I was having stomach pains but the first indicator to my doctors was delayed growth. We tested for everything under the sun before coming to the conclusion that I had Crohn's. Never rule out the possibility of another cause however if it is Crohn's which it might be, it is a blessing to have found it before the pain has begun. Another thing to remember is that as a child I did not realize the pain I was in prior to the pains becoming worse. It is an odd but true thought. Sometimes stomach aches are not reported because children believe it is normal. Females with Crohn's also usually have a high tolerance for pain.
