Has anyone who's taken Asacol found untouched pills in their stools?

all you are seeing is the out side shell. It looks like the pill but don't worry your getting what you need.

How can you be getting what you need if the capsule is still intact? I don't understand. The shell must first disintegrate in order for the medication on the beads to be released, no?

I was told that the medication leaches through the shell but I understand your concern. They often passed through me. One came out with the shell cracked and a sharp edge; that got my attention! Ouch.

I've read that too, funguy (that the medication leaches through the shell), but I'm not buying it. The shell is supposed to disintegrate, leaving the beads with the medication on them to move about
freely. If the shell is partly intact, and the beads came out, then it probably did its job. But if it's entirely intact, with the beads still inside, then no medication was delivered.

I was on that and had to quit because I saw the shell in my stools. My GI said it was normal to see the casings of the pill(and so did the drug company) BUT my pill still had all the medicine inside the casing so once I digged it out of the toilet(gotta do what ya gotta do to get proper treatment)& showed it to the GI, he
opened it and immmediately switched me to Asacol.
Yes, it is normal to see the casing in the stool but if you see the whole pill &
open it see if the medicine is still in the shell. If so you may have some malabsoprtion issues like me & need to switch. I was so mad when I saw that big pill still floating! Those pils are expensive..

I'm on Asacolon (same thing that's just what it's called here) mine does not have a shell type exterior it's just a solid tablet type pill, i've passed this totally "intact" (solid,no cracks etc) while taking a stool sample recently,i don't know if this has happened before as i haven't looked (do now) and will be mentioning this to my GI on my next scheduled visit on Feb 21,Slainte

I'll just keep my eye out to see if this is happening frequently or if it was a one time thing. It was definatly a whole pill untouched. The reason I saw it was she had an accident si ti was in the Pad she wears for bladder issues. Thaks for all your input.
