Pill Cam, Part THREE... and no chocolate for me :(

So, after going through the prep three weeks ago and not being able to swallow the patency capsule...

THEN a week later, doing the whole prep AGAIN for the patency capsule placement by EGD.(it went through--yay)...

Here we go again...FULL PREP once more (seriously, how much more of this can one person drink???) for the Pill Cam placement via EGD tomorrow at 3.. No food from 2 PM this afternoon til 11 PM tomorrrow night, plus no liquid from midnight tonight until 5 PM tomorrow.

Was only able to drink one liter of MoviPrep even after adding almost half a canister of Country Time lemonade mix! Still think I might barf. I also came down with a horrible cold yesterday which makes all of this worse.

And in order to properly feel sorry for myself, may I point out that I will be spending Valentine's Day at the hospital, and will be unable to go out to a nice dinner or to eat any chocolate??? :( I'm so bitter... Just hope there is a resolution to all of this nonsense so I can get to feeling better, and that they can finally see where in the heck the disease is (well, I know where it is, but they all want CONFIRMATION!) and get me the right meds.

Can I get a witness??? smilewinkgrin

AMEN!

You should ask your doctor for a prescription for anti-nausea meds to make the preps easier. I wouldn't make it through them without taking something before I start drinking all that crap. It makes it SO much easier.

I hope they get things figured out with ya, and get you to feeling better.

P.S. Valentine's Day could be worse...you could be going through this AND be single...

Well said, Monkiray! And I should have been smarter to get meds before starting this prep (again).

And you're right...I could be single! I am lucky to have a good hubby! :) Thanks for the support!

Valentine's Day is the pits when you're single - the ghastly pink hearts, teddies and flowers get rubbed in your face everywhere, so it would seem. As for chocolate, just have it after Valentine's! Doesn't really matter when you have it. I won't be able to have chocolate at Easter probably, but I'm still gonna buy myself an Easter Egg nearer the time and save it... >_>

MoviPrep is vile. I can only sip that stuff extremely slowly, as if I tried to get it down fast I'm fairly sure I would bring it back up. I have found that if I drink it while I'm on the internet, I'm more distracted so I don't notice it as much.

For the future .... ask for SuPrep instead for scope or capsule prepping. Less bilge water to drink and not so foul tasting.

This PCE should get you the answers you need to get you on the proper meds so ... good luck!!! This PCE bit should all be over soon!!!!

How much less do you drink?  Really, it's almost like someone tried to think of a way to make the most obnoxiously-tasting drink with these preps. 

Anyone know if I can go through the EGD if I've got a fever?  I really think I'm getting one...  I may go completely insane if I've done all of this for nothing...  sad

Never a dull minute around here:

Fever of 100.2. They only decided to do the procedure the last minute. Then, they had to try it three times! First time, the pill got stuck, second time, the wire came off, and third time was a charm. My throat is SO sore, and I still can't eat until 11:30 PM. UGH!

No tests for me for a very LONG time! :(

Well, at least the deed is done and the pill is down the throat and working its way thru your intestines. The worst part should be over, the prep and the getting it "installed" so it can "do its thing". Now we are wishing you the best of luck w/results!!!!

As I remember it, less than half of what you have to drink of the "bilge water". You still need to drink similar volume of water but water is a blessing after the bilge water!!

Once any of the "prep" solutions is all downed there is still a good volume of just plain water needed for hydration AND as a "final rinse" of the intestines. After all, that "bilge water" IS an irritant to get your gut to move and empty itself and you really do wanna "rinse" that stuff thru and OUT and GONE!

So pill cams must be done different ways different places. I had my MRI enterography last week that showed no strictures so I'm scheduled for my pillcam Thursday. I have to go to clear liquids at noon the day before, at 5 pm i have to drink a bottle of Mag citrate and after midnight nothing to eat or drink. then the next day I go in, swallow the pill cam and get the electrodes attached with a waist belt for the monitor. The GI center is in another building where I work so i'm going back to work afterwards (OR Nurse) and then I can have a light snack four hours into the test. At 4 pm i have to go back to the GI center to have the monitor removed and then we're off to the big city to see the Atlanta Hawks play.

uahollem...You are going to look like the uni-bomber with all those electrodes attached....are you sure you are going to be able to work??

They said they would have me helping at the desk and giving breaks/lunches instead of having a dedicated room/patients. It could be kindof unnerving to go into surgery thinking your nurse is sicker than you are. So this way i can keep my normal routine and not miss any hours. I'm gonna wear my medium scrub top that day so that should help. The GI guy said it's a very low profile device.
