I was recently diagnosed with CD and have been on pred taper for over a month now and have had no D...Now I have my period and D! Is this normal even while on pred?
Thanks

I know of many women who flare during their period. I for one...even when I'm not flaring, get D when I'm on my period. What I mean is that I don't get the pain that goes along with flaring...just the D and tiredness. Try to keep hydrated and be sure to let your doctor know your flaring every 3-4 weeks...you'll most likely need to be put on some kind of maintenance meds. Pred didn't take away the D completly for me, just the swelling and pain. Beware of other side effects coming off of the Pred...like face bloating, hunger and mood swings. Those were my most common, I'm sure other people had more side effects they can share.
Another thing that can be helpful to u, since u are newly dx'ed...is a food diary. Certain foods effect us all differently. My bad foods are pork, rice, olives and any raw veggies/salads. If you can pinpoint what foods are making u'r flares worse and have D really bad u can eliminate them from your diet and hopefully alliviate some of the discomfort.
Hope that helps!
Good Luck!

Many women without inflammatory bowel disease get loose stool and diarrhea around their menstrual cycle. For me it was day 1 and then it would get better. Once I developed Crohn's it didn't seem to matter much to my bowels where I was in my menstrual cycle, but my joint pain was totally related to my hormonal cycle. I wouldn't necessarily say that your cycle is causing a flare, but it is worth noting that many women with Crohn's use birth control pills to minimize their menstrual cycle and thus the bad symptoms they get during their menstrual cycle.

My daughter and I both have the hardest time during "that" time of the month. Even the 40 mg of Pred hasn't helped this month.

Yep. I get Crohn's like symptoms right before my period. I had a resection about
6 months ago and I'm in remission right now. The past 2 months I started to get cramps, lower right quad pain, and loose stools about
a week before my period. As soon as my period ended, so did the symptoms. I'm pretty confident that I'm not flaring as I feel great except for week before my period. I had this even when I was in remission the first time...
I asked my mom and my sister if they noticed anything similar. Both said they get severe lower right quad pain and loose stools right around their periods too. Neither have Crohn's.
So you might just be having a regular woman reaction to your period and not flaring up!
