I am a 38 year old mom of five diagnosed with CD two weeks ago and am started on PRED! My youngest son 13yrs old has had blood when wiping and had some blood work done after finding a anal fissure. Now Feb 24th he goes for a scope down the throat and colon! How horrible I feel for passing this on to him. I had a hard time dealing with me having it...I certainly don't want my little boy to have to suffer with CD!

Woe is me I guess...:(

I have CD and our 16 year old was diagnosed at 13 with CD. She was worse then but stable now after 3 years on Entocort. Now I'm in the flare and on Pred and she is actually med free right now. Praying his scope goes well. Will they also draw labs for the Prometheus?

Amazing story thank you so much. No he has not been diagnosed but the first thing they asked was if anyone in the family has CD. Just scary to me I guess. My son is very active and plays baseball basketball and football so I know that he wil not let something like this get in his way. Again thanks for the touching story.:)

Well my son had his testing done on Friday and does have Chrons..:( Ver sad mom here. They wanted to start him on remicade and I refused. I did tell the doc that I know there are more mild treatments with him being just a kid. He will start Pred, Pentasa and 6mp tomorrow. I am a little nervous for him I must confess. I am afraid of the pred knowing how crappy I feel on it. Poor guy. He has no stricturing but an ulcer in the colon he does have. His symptoms are mild and the bleeding fissure is what led us to the testing. Does the meds he is going on sound about right? He is 13.

My son is 11 and we were just told a couple of days ago that he has Crohns. He is on Pred, Pentasa, Nexum, Culturelle,Norco and Amitriptyline. They wanted to start 6mp but I am not sure if we are going to start that medicine or not. I am just not sure if I feel comfortable him taking it. We go Monday to meet with the doctor to ask questions. My son also has a kidney disease and benign rolandic epilepsy.

Please do not blame yourself. I have 2 kids, one has tummy issues (DX with IBS) and touching wood, the other seems to be normal (the IBS DX is my 22 yr old daughter and my son is 19 yrs old).

I love my kids to death! If I had known that I was going to get sick with IBD (happend after my first was born) then I never would have had any children (but that's just me) however, I got sick after having my first and did not want to have an only child and asked back then if my CD was hereditary and was told they did not know for sure and not to base my decision to have another child on the possibility that it might be. So we gambled and planned our second (whom as I mentioned so far is healthy--still touching wood--)

Sorry for what you and your son are going through...and for everyone that has IBD.

You made me cry Malshay...... My son now in his third year of university, very athletic and outgoing is dealing with an anal fissure that he has had for over 4 years. We have a family history with colon cancer, crohns and polyps. My son has seriously changed his diet during his 3rd yr in university and realizing that this illness can get anyone. This site is awesome. My son was also given cream but he knows he has to be tested. He is turning into a very responsible young man. He has gotten over his embarrassment of having to show the Dr his poor bum. My daughter and I are also dealing with illness, but in a way we understand each other and can relate to the emotional side and the daily struggle together. My cousin was diagnosed with crohns when she was 13 and had a large amount of intestine removed. She is know a grown woman who completed university and is very outgoing. Her father (my uncle) died from colon cancer when she was only 18 yrs old. It's good to catch this nasty thing earlier and deal with it and learn to live with it.
