Heres the condensed version. Diagnosed with CD and perianal abscess the same week which then turned into a fistula and i now have a loose seton. Started Remicade this week and today i was in the bathroom doing my usual ritual of hovering over a mirror to change gauze and inspect when all of a sudden the exit site for the seton started bleeding all over the place. not just a dab of blood on the gauze but enough i had to get a towel to clean the bathroom floor. i replaced the gauze and it stopped after a few minutes.

Is this normal? and has anyone ever experienced it?

Was wondering?? Did you just have a bowel moment?? Is it a cutting seton...maybe it had just cut through.





June 2011 - My symptoms felt like I had 100 haemorrhoids, fever, major calf cramps at night.
July 7th 2011 - first surgery for perianal abscess with daily home care nurse to change packing....which never stayed in.
July 25th 2011 - Second surgery home care...no packing.
Sept 2011 - Colonoscopy ruled out crohns, colon cancer, polyps - since I have a family history
Home care nurse 3 times a week- mentioned to them that I thought I had a fistula
Nov 7th 2011 - MRI
Nov 30th 2011 - Surgery for 2 fistulas - seton banding (cutting)
Dec 2011 - Surgeon found bands not tied...retied.
Feb 16th 2012 - Surgeon founds bands untied...tightened and retied.
Feb 19th 2012 - Bands both fell out.
*At this point I’m not taking and meds

No it is not a cutting seton and had not recently had a bowel movement. It just all of a sudden started pouring blood. wierd.

Yes, I have had this happen.  The remicade can close fistulas quickly, so you might of just had some back up that was caught up in the track and it let loose.  If it continues to happen I would call your surgeon.

Lots of sitz baths each day got me thru the seton. I hope yours settles down soon.
