Hi Mable... I have only been diagnosed so far with IBS (undergoing testing for crohns as I have the symptoms/signs) anyway.. I cannot have prunes or apples which they recommend.. but I HAVE found (and they told me during my most recent hosp admission that recent research supports this) PEARS help way better than anything else.. for me anyway. a pear or two a day helps.
At the moment the doc has me taking a teaspoon of epsom salts dissolved in juice or water.. it's an age old remedy apparently but BOY DOES IT WORK! he said I can taper down or up depending on how constipated I think I am.. you could always try that too? he said no more than 2 teaspoons a day though because you can have too much magnesium sulphate. one does it for me and I get badly constipated.. edit: the good thing with epsom salts too is that the bowel doesn't become reliant on it like a lot of the meds
Let me know if you try it and it helps?
