I was diagnosed with CD in October 2010 at the age of 61 just by coincidence in a every 5 year colonoscopy. I have participated infrequently in this forum because I really do not have the sort of problems that I read here. For now I am fortunate to say that my illness is mostly in remission and, with doctor's supervision, do not take medication but to monitor the potential CD progress, I have done blood tests every 6 months and will do a second colonoscopy in the next 2 months.
However, no matter how much I experiment with food and trying things like ginger tea. I have continues problems with gases. I feel the stomach all the time, the gases begin mildly in the morning and get much worse by the time to go to bed at night.
Does anyone have a magic solution? Someone suggested that I try taking large quantities of activated charcoal on a daily basis, is that recommended, no side effects?
Thank you for your input

They give charcoal to people when they overdose in the hospital..why I know that is another subject but I highly do not recommend it.

I just read today that peppermint tea is supposed to help gas, and tea with lemon balm. I just got chamomile tea today and just had some, it feels good so far. Ive been having horrible gas and pain from it the past three days. Im hoping the tea works.
Possibly it may be something you're eating that your body may not be tolerating/digesting as well anymore?

Hi,
Activated charcoal is quite commonly used to 'adsorb' gas in the intestinal tract. You should not need large doses. It is worth a try (my late grandmother swore by it.)
The gas is usually a sign of incomplete digestion - fermenting of foods. That is also unfortunately common in digestive disorders Have you ever tried digestive enzymes?
If you can be bothered, careful food combining is also useful. Proteins and starches are hard to digest together....etc....
Glad this is your main issue, really! good luck.

My GI doctor told me to get activated charcoal tabs today for the gas. I took a dose and it worked wonders!! =) I was amazed at how quickly it worked to absorb the gas.

Hi Erwin,
One cause of gas is when the foods your body is unable to digest ferment in your guts. Bacteria eat what you don't digest and produce gas. I don't digest lactose, fructose, or gluten very well and if I eat foods that contain these, I blow up like a balloon--yuck! There is a diet called FODMAP that has helped me a lot. Of course your problem with gas may be due to something completely different. Do you avoid lactose and gluten in your diet? Sometimes people with crohn's have problems with yeast containing foods as well. Hope you get it figured out, mega gas is awful.

I had the same problem all the time, and I thought it was just a part of my UC. But it's gone now after taking digestive enzyme. See my post here:
