What causes the left side pain? I rarely have right side pian . just curious

your colon runs up the right side across the top and down the left. Left sided pain is VERY common with colon issues.. I guess because it's closest to the rectum so gets the bulkiest of the stool? Unless you're meaning something else because i'm sure you know this already lol :-)

Im sorry Im not that bright, I didnt know. :) I kept telling my dr left side pain and my sister said its usually on the right side. I hurt on the left and he told me I have chrons. She kept telling me know thats wrong so I figured I would ask because the one post I read said left side pain, and my pain is intense at times. thanks

I always had lower right side pain when my intestines were flaring. Now, my intestines are supposed to be under control coz of Entocort. However, I started recently having the same pain in the left side. I think it is colon pain and not intestines. Do you have increased D? I have recently got too mushy stool. I'm on Rifaximin and a probiotic. If it is very annoying as I used to have it, I think you should see your GI.

I have decreased d, and I see him monday. I have another colonscopy. Right now Im trying to drink movi prep. I feel like throwing up. there has to be an easier way. this is the third colonscopy in six months, yukkk. the screwy dr did one then my new dr did one now he wants a repeat just incase he missed something. I am not doing this again, I hate lemons. :(

My started having a left side pain also since yesterday. I don't seem to be flaring. I'm doing great and even my D has improved.

So is it really caused by colon inflammation, I wonder?

I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease just one week ago. I have left side pain and right side pain. The right side pain is ileitis and is worse than the left side. The left side pain is from inflammation in that part of the colon. I have generalized pain in various points around my abdomen, not always in the same place, caused by more inflammation. The doctor put me on 9m Entocort EC. (I'll go down to 6 M in two weeks and to 3m after 2 more weeks.) I now have insomnia -- haven't had a night's sleep since I started the Entocort and I have terrible constipation. After consultation, my diet now consists of clear liquids, prune juice, and Miralax and still I am constipated. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to relieve either of both of these side effects.

I cant help you im sorry, im to new to my diagnosis. but my dr put me on endocort seems to be clearining up my imflamation, not doing much for the diaherra. This disease is just awful.

Its not affecting my sleep thank god. I try to stay on a pattern. I stay up late and get up early around 6-8 hors aday. No caffiene, I found that messes with my sleep and the chrons, good luck, I take 3 a day then 2 then 1, in eight week intervals.

Hey, you know that the bowel (small and large) is all over your abdomen. It is not possible on a web forum to tell you what is causing your pain. "Left side" is a pretty general term.

Now if you said you had pain on your left side, under your ribs, burning - I would say it sounds like heart burn or gastritis.

If you said you had pain on your left side, under your hip bone, in back, I would say it sounds like your kidney. In front? Sigmoid colon, ovary, descending colon, pick one.

If you said you had pain on your left side, really generalized, not tender to the touch, I would say I don't know.

You can see pictures of the bowel on the internet, or in your doctor's office, and maybe looking it over would help you when you discuss your pain with your DR.

Please remember that a colonoscopy only sees the colon, and just a bit of the small bowel (terminal ileum). There is 20 feet of small bowel that is NOT visualized by the scope.

Entocort is only effective in the terminal ileum (and maybe nearby areas of the colon). If you have inflammation anywhere else, you will need another kind of treatment.

kasburn, you're correct. the terms should be more specific: Right front lower quadrant; left front lower quadrant. After looking at the pictures of the colon, you can see exactly where the ileum is and identify the point of pain pretty accurately.

Interesting, I didn't know that Entocort only works on the terminal lieum, I thought that it was an anti-inflammatory. I guess I need to discuss the general colon inflammation that he diagnosed with him. shakehead
