My crohns has pretty much gone into remission since my hysterectomy 1 half yrs ago, I have since gone into menopause (age 37) I am starting to flare again here and there and am feeling quite anxious about it. I believe my crohns would flare during my monthly cycle because of the extreme heavy periods, interstitial cystitis, inflammation etc. but menopause ? .I am curious what anyone knows about hormones and crohns disease. ?

Hormones are hugely linked to IBD (it's even highly suspected that BC pills may be an environmental trigger) and I didn't start having any health issues until I went on the BC pill as a teenager (that's when my perianal crohn's skin tags started to appear then about a yr and a half after I had my first baby, that's when all hell broke loose, the tags were out of control, they still they it was hemmies and they rushed me in for emergency hemmie surgery (they banded them) and at the same time I told all docs that I was starting to have more frequency in bowel movements/day (still formed) but way more times a day than I ever had in my life...they shrugged it off like it was nothing...until the end of May about 2 weeks after the "hemmie" surgerie, then it was crazy D, weightloss, tons of mucous and some blood and lots of anal fissures on top on my severely flaring anal skin tags.
So there you have it for me at least, BC pills and then hormonal changes after having first baby. I'm really hoping that menopause will be what puts me into remission....I've never been in full remission my entire 21 yrs of having CD.

I didn' t have issues until I was no looking having children. I was pregnant in my 20s 3 times. I had a hysterectomy at 32 and it didn't help the symptoms at all. At that time they thought it was causing the issue not Crohn's but it didn't work.

I have had two pregnancies and took BC pills for about
28 years, I was 55 years old when I was diagnosed with Crohn's, the middle of menopause.
