Does anyone else who has Crohn' s Disease have periods when it seems like they are constantly getting hungry?

I am currently.on Remicade, Pentasa, Imuran and Colestipol for CD and Synthroid for my thyroid. Do any of these qualify as steroids? I currently live in Fairfax County Virginia. Does anyone who lives in this area know of any good support groups?

On steroids yes. Otherwise not really. Especially if I'm starting to flare, the appetite seems to be the first to go. :( Sadly right now I feel like I'm eating everything in sight since I'm still on the pred.

None of the drugs you mentioned are steroids. The only two steroids that are used in Crohn's are prednisone and budesonide (more commonly known as Entocort). The first one, prednisone, is the one that people usually take.

Remicade and Imuran are two different types of immunesuppressants, Pentasa is an antiinflammatory. None of them should cause increased appetite per se, but they might do so indirectly by helping you get into remission and feel better. Prednisone, on the other hand, is renowned for turning people into slavering beasts around food.

Me, I wouldn't say I was ever constantly hungry, but I certainly have periods of being more hungry than normal. Think it's normal.

Yes. Especially when I am in remission after a long period of disease activity. I have periods where everything sounds, looks, smells, and tastes good. At those times, I want to eat it all!

My wife says that I feel hungry a lot because my body is not absorbing the nutrients.

Yes, I get real hungry the day before I'm going to spend a lot of the time in the bathroom. It's like my body is loading the ammunition.

Yes. A few thoughts--

As my husband has said, if he spent most of his life in pain from food and the pain stopped, he would eat constantly. :-)

But seriously I do believe that my body gets very hungry if I am lacking something or if I am recovering from a few days of pain, cramping, or diahrrea.

Yes! Yes! I agree with some of the statements here. Seems like I'm either nauseated or starving. I crave all the food I can't have. I often dream of eating large salads, vegetables and red meat! haha. I actually get cookbooks out and just browse....it helps for some reason.

Yes, I'm actually going through such a period now. It seems like if I don't eat once every 4 hours I get a feeling of intense gnawing hunger. I have no idea what causes it as, like you, I'm not on any steroids. However, it only started happening after my most recent resection. Did you have any such surgery before you started feeling constantly hungry?
