OT: Just a quick update on me and my pregnancy

I just thought since there have been so many questions lately on pregnancy that I would share a little bit of my journey.

So the background story is that I was dx with CD in 2008 and I was very sick when I was dx so I was soon put on Remicade and then a few months later on Humira when I got allergic to Remicade. I have been doing wonderfully on Humira now for over two years and my CD is in remission. I also have Auto Immune Hep, Arthritis, Anxiety disorder and Endometriosis.

Well fast forward too April 2011 when me and my fiance decided that now was a good time to become parents, before I stopped taking the pill I got a green light from all of my doctors and we fixed all the meds so I could be on them while pregnant. The plan was for me to be on Humira 40mg every two weeks and Asacol 800mg x 2 a day.
It took us 7 months to conceive naturally although I did have appointment set up with the fertility clinic just one week after we found out I was pregnant :P We never went to that appointment hehe.

So I called the high risk OB the moment we found out and I have been seeing them ever since, at 7 weeks we found out we where expecting fraternal twins something I was not prepared for since there are no twins in my family
I am now 28 weeks pregnant my girls are doing great, they are bigger than average for there gestation and looking very good. I have had a wonderful pregnancy so far with minor if none complications and nothing I can blame on the CD or any of the diseases I have more on the fact that I am carrying multiples. I did have some colon problems when I was 16 weeks but that went away when my GI told me I should not be eating so much fruits.

The only thing I have had a though time adjusting too is my slower digestion and I can now say after many years of extremely fast digestion even on the meds that I am now almost normal, and it was freaking me out a little bit at first to only have to poo once a day :) I know it sounds crazy.

My team of doctors is very happy with everything and the way things are looking now I should be able to carry to term witch is about 38 weeks for twins.
I have not doubted my decision to stay on the meds for one minute and I am happy with the support I am getting form all my doctors, they are even saying that they support my decision to breastfeed while on Humira since there is a new study out that says its safe.

I would strongly advice women who are thinking about conceiving to get the disease well under control first and have all of your medical team on board with everything before you become pregnant that should make your life easier.

Congrats on the twins. Very happy that you are doing well (keeping my fingers crossed). I'm not married yet but this gives me hope.

When the twins are born, make sure your GI is readily available to keep you as well as possible. Also, ask family/friends to bring you some food and to help out around the house and with the twins.

Thank you I just met my GI last week to discuss observation and treatment if I would have a flare after delivery. So everything is set up. And I have his mobile number in case of emergency.

Its sounds like you have everything figured out ;)

I also had a operation on my cervix due to pre cancerous cells in 2006, I asked for a extra cervix checks when I became pregnant so we had time to put in a cervical cerclage if it started to shorten or open but I am now 29 weeks and my cervix is over 3 cm and closed so no issues there. Its usually checked every two weeks.
Your doc should be able to see if your cervix looks good or not and how much they had to cut off it.

I would say that its most important to have all of your doctors on board and ready to work together if any issues arise.
I would ask how your care would be planned and what extra observations you would get like growth scans and so on. But I think usually if you are healthy at the moment everything turns out just fine :)
