I've posted here once or twice about
6 years ago, and people were very helpful, and I could use some insight. Here's my story in a nutshell: In 1999, I experienced lower right side abdominal pain for about
4-6 hours, no other symptoms at all, no diarrhea, no constipation, no blood, no vomiting, etc.. Went to the ER. They thought I had appendicitis, but then the pain subsided (with no medication at all, not even pain medication). I left the ER within a few hours and had no problems at all for 7 years.
In 2006, I again experienced lower right side abdominal pain for a few hours, no other symptoms again. Went to the ER on the advice of my primary care physician for suspicion once again that I had appendicitis. The pain again subsided (without any medication once again) and I left the ER without even being seen yet by a doctor. Went to a gastro dr. in Manhattan that week and had a CT scan, which showed mild inflammation of my terminal ileum. The gastro said that I had crohn's, even though I had experienced pain for only a few hours twice in 7 years and never had any other symptoms. I went to another gastro, b/c I just couldn't believe I could have Crohn's without any symptoms other than a few hours of mild to moderate pain. I went to a highly recommended gastro who examined me and listened to my history, reviewed the CT scan and said that I didn't have Crohn's for a few reasons, inlcuding that I did not have any symptoms, and that if I did have a flare up the previous week, it is unheard of for a Crohn's flare to stop without any medication.
Fast forward to 2012. I again experienced lower right abdominal pain for a few hours, and also experienced some bright red blood for about a week. The pain subsided, without medication. Went to the same gastro, who did a colonoscopy (my first). The colonoscopy came back normal, no evidence of Crohn's, but I have a hemmorhoid. The blood subsided right after the colonoscopy. Did a prometheus test, that came back positive for Crohn's a few weeks ago, and now the gastro says I have it, but has prescribed no medication because I am not experiencing any symptoms.
Sorry for the long history, but what do you think? Can you have Crohn's for 13 years (I'm 43 by the way), without experiencing any symptoms at all other than a few hours of pain (mild to moderate cramping) every 6-7 years and a week worth's of bright red blood on the toilet paper? Also, I do not experience diarrhea or constipation at all, ever (knock on wood). If I do have it, should I go on medication right now? Anyone else ever get out of a flare (assuming I was in a flare) without any medication at all? Will I get worse? I know this last question is unanswerable, just threw it in there.
Any help would be much appreciated!! Thanks.
