how to cope with Crohn's

Hopefully, as you ween off the pred, your mood will improve. Your best friends and closes family around you should be understanding and put themselves aside. It's not about them, it's because your suffering and this medication is known to create mood swings. Would any of them be willing to read up a little on Crohn's? It might help them have more empathy.

And since your CD is mild, you should talk to your GI about maintenance medications. A probiotic is often a good idea and avoiding certain foods (often dairy, wheat/gluten, processed fatty foods, etc) that make your symptoms worse.

It started with occasional pain in lower abdomen and kept getting worse. When I came to hospital, they passed me through sonography, CT scan and finally colonoscopy, which as I was told, confirmed suspicions for M. Crohn.
I took Pentasa 3x2 a day and a few days ago, at my first gastroenterology visit, doctor told me to use Medrol 2-1-0 for 10 days and then start reducing 8mg each week (after looking at all those results). In my case terminal ileum is affected, some inflammatory changes, significant widening of terminal ileum found, colon ascendens with short stenosis between cecum and ascendens, and don't know what else.
My mother is trying her best but I feel like she cares too much, I'm so irritated now, with those drugs and stuff, so I make her upset, and so on... I'm sure it's natural to have such disputes in such bad time.
For now, I just avoid eating food which I shouldn't eat, anything badly digestible, etc. and exploring what makes me feel good and what worsens the problems..
Ah, just need some more energy.. it will also take some time to find the right information, to try some supplements, etc.

Great that your making some dietary changes RichieS, if you are find bowel movements more normal, less pain, I hope your doc will let you taper off your meds so you can resume healing with diet/supplementation.

If you don't mind, here's a few things that my naturopath helped me with:

-Supplementing with L-Glutamine powder (natural amino acid that hydrates cells and gives us energy).
-Slippery Elm powder or loose leaf herb (to make tea), a mucilaginous herb that replenishes the mucus lining of the gut.
-Probiotics -restore the guts good to bad bacteria ratio 89-11%, helpful overall, but noticably with less gas/abdominal cramping and bloating.
-Vitamin D -the vitamin that prevents disease and is linked to less crohns symptoms.
-Take a look at these diets: The SCD (specific carbohydrate diet) and the Paleo diet, one avoids grains, starches, sugars and yeast, while the other avoids those, as well as anything processed/artificial and most dairy, i believe.

The UC form is also very active, and even though I have crohns I find alot of help there too.

Chronsmom: I'm sorry to hear that. Do you guys know Louise Hay's - You can heal your life? I do and I try to stick to this. I know that psyche works wonders. And although it's difficult, we must stay positive... Let's try.. :))

There's nothing like prenisolone to get you better so you have to learn to manage the emotional roller-coaster as best you can, baring in mind it's not you!

Best thing I ever did was use hypnotherapy to manage stress & pain thus learning to relax. This helps me get through flair ups and times when prednisolone is essential.

Have a look for registered hypnotherapists on NCH or APHP.

If you are going to have surgery, tell your doctor or health care professional that you have taken this medicine within the last twelve months.

Ask your doctor or health care professional about your diet. You may need to lower the amount of salt you eat.

The medicine can increase your blood sugar. If you are a diabetic check with your doctor if you need help adjusting the dose of your diabetic medicine.

What side effects may I notice from receiving this medicine?
Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:

eye pain, decreased or blurred vision, or bulging eyes
fever, sore throat, sneezing, cough, or other signs of infection, wounds that will not heal
frequent passing of urine
increased thirst
mental depression, mood swings, mistaken feelings of self importance or of being mistreated
pain in hips, back, ribs, arms, shoulders, or legs
swelling of feet or lower legs

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your doctor or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):

confusion, excitement, restlessness
headache
nausea, vomiting
skin problems, acne, thin and shiny skin
weight gain

After being on actual Prednisone for one full year, the surgeon who did my bowel resection told me that I had the insides of an 80 year old. Steroids are not a great thing, maybe in moderation, but rally not a good long term solution. (in my opinion only of course)
