I had a real jerk for a GI my first time in, and immediately started doing research online for GI's in my area. I ended up going in to see the GI that gave my father-in-law a colonoscopy and really liked the way he asked questions and incorporated my preferences into any resulting treatment plan. What I ended up doing was just stalling the jerk-doctor's office, so that eventually they gave me up as a lost cause. I don't know how mature that is, but I felt awful (just diagnosed and utterly miserable, so absolutely no tolerance for anything) and didn't want to get too blunt with them :)
So no, I don't think that is improper at all. It is your right as a patient to get second, third, billionth opinion. If you aren't comfortable, change. See what else is out there. For diseases like this, I firmly believe that you need a doctor that you are 100% impressed with and have a good relationship with. It is a lifetime disease, so you are shopping for a lifetime doctor.
Also, I love your name! Labradorite is an utterly beautiful mineral. Good choice!
