Pink eye, sinus infections and Humira

Hey,

So I have been on Humira for several years now. Since December I have had a sinus infection with no relief.  I have been on antibiotics twice and it hasn't helped.

Also I have had pink eye on and off for the past serveral months. The eye doc said it was viral pink eye and won't give me anything for it.

Niether infections seems to want to go away.

Has anyone else had these problems on Humira?

My GI told me that this is something that I just need to manage I can't do much about them.

Any relief in sight?

I got viral pink eye from one of my nephews about 5 or 6 years ago, and it took what seemed forever before it finally went away. It kept going away, coming back, switching eyes, going away, coming back, switching again, etc, etc. That virus is very contagious and you can keep re-infecting yourself. Wash your pillow cases and sheets often, and your towels, and wash your hand and try your best not to touch your eyes. I think mine finally went away for good after 4 months or so.

As for your sinuses, see an Ear Nose Throat specialist. They can do a rhinoscopy (a fiber optic scope into the nasal passage) and look around for any physical blockages (like polyps) that may be the underlying cause. I'd also recommend nasal saline irrigation. You can often get rid of the sinus infection that way and not have to take antibiotics. Ask the ENT specialist for details or look it up online. I use a Waterpik and and Ethicare adaptor.

I'm not on Humira, but had pink eye last November that lasted for over a month. There's something about a low immune system that keeps these things hanging on. I know what it's like to suffer the affects of pink eye, and it's no picnic. My eyes are still not fully back to normal. Best of luck with yours.

Did you ever find something that helped get rid of the pink we or did it just go away on it's own?

With my pink eye, my general doctor gave me antibiotic drops. They didn't help. It got so bad I went to ER and they prescribed a stronger one, it was called garamycin. It did help, it was actually soothing to my eye.
There is a pink eye condition that may be associated with crohn's disease and I'm sure it applies to other forms of inflammatory bowel disease.
On a daily basis I use mostly artificial tears to keep my eyes moist. If I have an important occassion to attend, I will use a redness relief eye drop to make my eyes look better, but I use this option only seldom because using it too often can cause a rebound red eye.
