Aspirin: Immediate reaction?

Hi everyone - hope this finds you well.

I was hospitalized for a TIA for several days earlier this week. (Feel fine now thank goodness.)

Luckily they did not feel I needed to be on Coumadin, but have been prescribed aspirin. They suggested a regular adult-size aspirin, but I started with a baby aspirin because I was concerned about the side effects. My GI very sweetly came to visit me in hospital and said that the chance of stroke trumps CD; I should take the aspirin and "hope" it's OK.

I'm home now, and have taken adult aspirin (Mon-Tues) and baby aspirin (Tues-Wed). Today, I'm having very severe stomach cramps and diarrhea - not able to leave the house.

My question -- could this be from the aspirin so quickly? Or, just a regular bad CD day?

If we think it's aspirin, does anyone have suggestions on what to do to tolerate the aspirin better?

Thanks for the response - I'm reading on the internet that Prilosec taken with aspirin can help...anybody have experience with this?

Will call GI Monday...
