Hello all,

Humira, Remicade, and treatments like it may be in my near future. Pentasa is no longer working for me, and Im crossing my fingers Asacol HD does so i do not have to go on any other treatment. Id love it if anyone could post their personal experiences with it. Im most curious about side effects you have/had experienced while taking these treatments. Thank you.

I've been on humira since march, and I've seen huge improvements! I have achieved remission! :) there are a few times every couple of weeks that ill experience a bad day, but way better than before. I take my injections once a week. I notice a day before and the day of taking my injection I do notice some discomfort. My body knows when I need it! I don't notice too many symptoms, I do get tired often, many colds that last forever, and some hair loss but I think the few side effects I face are worth it.

I've been on Humira for 2 years and have been doing great! After 2 years of suffering with fistulas,abscesses, ulcers and everything that goes along with Crohn's it's been nice to have 2 years of remission hopefully it'll last much longer! At first the Humira gave me some pretty bad headaches, nausea, fatigue and just generally felt bad a few days after the injection but after a while those have gone away. There have also been a few bumps in the road but generally 10x better than how I was before Humira

Humira helped the crohns but I started have severe arthritis symptoms while on it - something I've never experienced before. Then I was put on Cimzia - it worked great for both problems for 2.5 years. Now I'm trying Simponi which is another RA drug and hasn't been cleared for crohns. Seems to be working - not as good as the Cimzia but working. If my insurance ever approves it, the gastro doc hopes to get me on a higher dose than they use for arthritis. What a roller-coaster!!

I have taken both Remicade & Humira to get rid of a fistula & stop my flares.

Remicade 3 doses (2012) - 1st dose was fine no real noticeable results. 2nd dose a week before my 3rd dose, I developed softball sized hives on legs & arms. GI thought it was not related so he gave me prednisone to clear it up & asked me to try a 3rd dose. I did & 2 days later I was covered head to toe with hives.

Humira 3 doses (2012) - 1st dose was taken before the hives went away. I could tell a difference within a week with my bm's. However back to ER head to toe hives. Doc wanted to try 1 more time I allowed it & same result. Really pissed me off because I felt normal BM wise but the daily hives were unbearable. Humira was ruled out & a few months later I was rechecked & fistula still present. I had mentioned to doc that maybe because they didn't wait for hives to go away maybe thats why I had Hives with Humira. So we tried again 1 Oct. I got the hives again. I really wanted Humira to work becasue it made me feel better.

In between all this I had 2 ER visits, missed 6 days of given prednisone & benadryl in 5 day courses. Finally saw an allergist & the only thing that helped was a daily regimn of Allegra & Zantac during the day Zyrtec at night, Tac 0.1% cream daily & Hydroxyzine if the hives still broke thru. I have had hives everyday from April 2012 - August 2012 then I was free & hives returned with 3rd dose of Humira in Oct. Currently on no meds for my Crohns.

I've been on Humira, Cimzia, and Remicade.  I'm currently on remicade now for about 18months.  I get it every 6 weeks at a higher dose b/c my crohn's is severe.  I have never had any reactions to any of them.  When I go get remicade they do premedicate me just in case with tylenol, benadryl, and corticosterioids.  So far no issues.  Now might be adding 6mp to remicade b/c remicade alone is not enough.  Hope it works for you and if you get remicade suggest being premedicated.  Hope all goes well :-)
