Today I went to the dentist (AGAIN) And he told me I had SIX cavities! I have already had eight cavities and two root canals and i'm only 17! I brush my teeth day and night and I use mouthwash. He told me my teeth were damaged and that the enamel has been slightly worn away. I feel so devastated, i'm so sick of having messed up teeth, is this an issue with anyone else?

Not for me...my dentist doesn't even believe I'm a smoker (for the last 31 yrs)...he says my teeth and gums do not resemble those of a smoker period, let alone for how long I've been smoking.
You can get toothpaste that's suppose to aid with softened enamel (the causes behind it wearing away).

I do....my enamel is really weak and I get cavities pretty easily, even though I floss and brush. They're pretty sensitive, too. It's always been a little bit that way but it's gotten worse since I got CD. Not sure if it's CD or if it's the prednisone.

Yes, ever since being diagnosed 2 years ago I've had 8 cavities. I brush my teeth twice a day, but admittedly only floss maybe 2-3 times per week.

I do as a matter of fact going to the dentist on Friday to address these issues. I have a problem with my teeth breaking off I'm thinking maybe its due to years of Malabsorbtion

My teeth are very brittle. My dentist says a lot of it is lack of hydration especially in the early 90s when I was really sick. He thinks I am coming back around tooth wise since I had been in remission so long (at least until this latest flare this weekend).

Do you know what your vitamin D level is? Many do not get enough vitamin D especially if they live in a place without lots of sun. Are you getting enough calcium? Both of these are important with crohns for teeth and bones. You are not alone, I feel lucky to still have all of my teeth minus one. Try not to worry about
the teeth, we all have much bigger fish to fry. Just do your best to take care of them. Hugs

Do you have GERD or gastritis? The refluxed acidity weakens the enamel. I have a lot of teeth problems and my gums are always swollen let alone I have persistent mouth ulcers. I don't know whether the cause is Crohn's or meds I'm on.

Thanks for all the feedback! My vitamin D levels are low, I'm not sure about
my calcium levels though. I think a lot of it was from vomiting and Humira gave me dry mouth. I'm glad i'm not alone!

Yes, my teeth are terrible! Interesting enough i was similar to you in one year when i first was ill and not yet diagonsed i got 10 cavities in a year and many of those teeth broke, reqired root canals, and some were eventually removed. Oddly enough i had a root canal this week, the first one in 7 years. It seems since being on remicade and fairly healthly the teeth have remained healthy with the exception of this week.

Oh yes! I have always had bad teeth but in the past 10 years I've had multiple root canals and crowns down. In fact I went in yesterday expecting a cleaning and placement of a crown and ended up scheduling an appt. for another root canal at the end of the month. It seems like as soon as a dentist touches one of my teeth, it turns into a root canal. Which really bugs me because I have some old silver fillings that I'd like to have removed but I can almost guarantee they will need root canals.

My teeth are absolutely effected by my Crohn's. They are much more brittle and unfortunately, high doses of Prednisone did not help one bit. Several teeth either fell out or broke in half due to Prednisone use.
Crohn's knows no bounds!
