I began Remicade when I was first diagnosed in 2002. While I was on Remicade, I developed psoriasis. I came off Remicade and started Humira for unrelated reasons, and the psoriasis has gotten worse. It's really horrible on my scalp, and I have lost a lot of hair. I've used peanut oil, tar shampoos, Olux, and steroid ointments. The steroid treatments will improve it for a very short amount of time and it comes right back. I was told not to use the steroid treatments for extended periods of time, so I am at a loss. Has anyone found anything that they have had success with as far as clearing up biologic-induced psoriasis? Thanks in advance!

Hey!

I got psoriasis as well from Humir, but not nearly as bad as you!  I have some stinky ointment called Bioterm?  Or something like that, which as helped, but found not long term solution.

I hope you find relief soon!

I got psoriasis from taking Humira. The best advice I can give you is to get off of the Humira! The psoriasis won't completely go away, but you can find a biologic that won't exacerbate the psoriasis, and maybe even help it. I switched from Humira to Cimzia and that helped, but the psoriasis has not gone away. Yours sounds pretty severe. I'm surprised that your GI hasn't referred you to a dermatologist or suggested that you switch meds. Can you get a derm to approve you for Stelara? It's a biologic and has been used off label to help Crohn's. Your GI won't be able to get it approved for the crohn's, but a derm could get it approved for the psoriasis and you could kill two birds with one stone. Good luck.

Thank you for your response Stef. My GI did refer me to a dermatologist, but she prescribed the same treatments that I had tried with my previous dermatologist. I would love to come off the Humira, but thus far that hasn't been an option. I have not heard about Stelara, though, so I will have to look into that and talk to my GI about it. Thanks again!
