I fell and bruised my ribs/sprained the muscles. The doctor gave me muscle relaxers (flexeril) and pain killers (ultram). At first he was going to give me ibuprofen, but after I told him I had CD he said to just take tylenol. Yesterday, I decide to take ibuprofen to help a bit more with an inflammation. The combination of those 3 really kept the pain at a tolerable level.

This morning I took tylenol, flexeril and ultram, and I'm experiencing more pain. So my question is can I get away with taking ibuprofen for a couple of days? I know it's bad for CD. I have been in remission for most of this year, and don't want to do anything to jeopardize that. However, I am in a lot of pain...back up to a 7 or 8. It was about a 5 yesterday.

My doctor said told me that I could use ibuprofen as long as I ate something with it. At that time I was in remission. I was on 600-800mg for months because of an RA flair, and it never bothered my Crohn's. I tend to agree with you being that ibuprofen being a anti-inflammatroy may help better.

What you would want to look into is if you can take it with the tylenol and ultram....that I don't know! Also, if you are on any steroids I know ibuprofen is out of the question. It just takes a quick call to the pharmacists and saves a lot of worries with drug interactions since you are adding something new to the mix! :)

Taking NSAIDs like ibuprofen when you have Crohn's disease increases your risk of a flare.

That does not mean you WILL flare, simply that your risks increase. There's no way to know ahead of time whether or not it will lead to a flare.

In general it's not worth the risk if you can take other pain meds instead. But sometimes it might be worth the risk. Talk to your GI.

Sometimes I can get away with it and sometimes I can't..Tylenol does not help..If I am actively having a problem I won't..If I am not, I will go ahead and take it..For pain or headaches it works the best..When I had my last molar pulled..I only ended up taking ibuprofen..Pain meds make me vomit and make me dizzy..
