Humira and ovarian cysts

So, we found out that the new pain I've been having is a golf ball sized ovarian cyst on my right ovary. I go in for more scans and ultrasounds tomorrow, so we know how it can be treated (either surgery or needle draining). What I need to know is about my GI wanting to start me on Humira right away, even with the possibility of surgery. The commercials and everything I've read said not to start Humira if you are planning on having surgery or have any type of infection (technically a cyst is an infection). Has anyone been started on Humira while dealing with ovarian cysts? My GI hasn't always made decisions that I agree with, and since I almost died because of his suggestion last March, I'm hesitant to let go of this nagging feeling to wait on starting the Humira. I'm asking this question on the three forums I'm on, and I plan on asking the GYN that I end up seeing.

I agree. Ovarian cysts are not an infection. I have suffered from them myself, including ones that ruptured on their own.
However, since you're going for surgery, delaying your start of Humira I think would be wise, because it would slow down your body's ability to heal from the surgery. Tho I know it takes a little while for Humira to build up in your system to full effectiveness.
What is going on with your Crohn's right now that your Dr is pushing Humira so hard?
Keep in mind that Doctors, though trained in medications, are only exposed to them for a brief period of time. Pharmacists study their entire degree about all things medications, side effects, counter-indications and so on. Asking your pharmacist is also something I would recommend anytime you have a question about your medication.
I'm lucky that my brother in law is a pharmacist, and nerdily LOVES doing research, so a lot of times i'll even field questions through him for people I know, lol. He's a handy tool to have.

I am 30 years old and have been dealing with crohn's since my teen years, as wellas, grave's disease for the past 6 years. I am currently taking only humira, which I HIGHLY recommend for those of you with crohn's that does not seem to be helped by other medications like 5-asa and 6 mp. To the girl who asked about taking humira before surgery, I highly recommend being off of the humira for about a month before having surgery. I have been where you are with being pressured to take the humira only my circumstances were a little different. I had gotten pregnant unplanned an my gastroenterologist told ne that a flare of my crohn's could really hurt the babies ( was carrying twins) and that humira was safe during pregnancy. I miscarried shortly after restarting my humira. No one can tell me for sure whether the humira was a contributing factor or not. So the following year I got pregnant again, this time intentionally, and refused to take the humira. My plan was to take meds to control my symptoms instead of actually treating my disease. (Only meds proven safe for pregnancy). I'm sure your drs have told you the same thing my drs did, we don't treat the symptoms, we treat the disease. They actually pretty much tried to blackmail me by refusing to write me any prescriptions until I resumed the humira. Thankfully my ob/gyn was as concerned about the humira as I was. He wrote all of my prescriptions and basically treated my crohn's symptoms for my entire pregnancy. I feel this is SO wrong. These drs shouldn't be allowed to force meds on us. Unfortunately in the past I learned that if my intuition tells me not to take something DON'T...I almost died after my gi drs told me that they refused to give me anymore zofran until I tried the scopalamine patch. I tried it, had mental health side effects and almost died on top of not remembering 3 days and waking up restrained. Please trust your gut instincts!
