I've never died my hair...so, I don't have any input about that.
The key, I guess, is to keep your hair moisturized enough so that your body doesn't compensate for what's lacking; at least, that's what I've been told. If you use harsh cleansers and such to strip away the oil, your skin will just make extra to protect itself.
This will sound crazzzzzy. I thought it did until I tried it. I don't know about your face...but, mine is really oily, but at the same time, it's dry (I think because of my eczema...or, just because weird things always seem to happen to me). It's odd. I have a hard time finding a good face lotion that will combat the dryness, while not making me super oily - difficult task. I've had great luck with St.Ive's collagen lotion that I bought at walmart. But, what I was referring to as sounding crazy...
At night, after you wash your face with a gentle soap (my doc told me to use only dove soap...but, I occasionally use Aveeno Clear Complexion cleanser) and then take a soft washcloth or a papertowel/tissue of sorts and put a small amount of olive oil on there. Wipe the cloth/towel or whatever you choose around your face softly. Dab off any extra. This literally works so much better than any lotion I use. Dabbing off the extra still allows your skin to take in what it 'needs' when you put it on at first, but then removes what is excess so you aren't oily. The next morning, I wake up with pretty soft skin that isn't oily. I've not tried it in the morning....but, I may sometime this week to see what happens during the day.
Sorry to hear about the flu! I woke up with another case of tonsilitis yesterday. So, I feel ya. I just started a new job in our local hospital... I've got to build back up my resistance, I guess.
