Hi everyone, I'm new to this site and I am interested to hear from anyone that is or has undertaken Anti-MAP therapy for treatment of their Crohns. My son has just started on it today. He is currently on Imuran (azathioprine) but will gradually reduce it as the Anti-MAP antibiotics kick in. I did find a thread about this treatment but it was quite old, nothing new posted since 2009, so if anyone out there is currently on the same treatment or has had experience with it I would love to hear from you. I hope that you will update this. I think MAP is a key bacteria so Im curious, were they able to actually test your son empirically for it?

Hi, I typed up a long reply to this a few hours ago but I don't think I submitted it properly as it's not here. Anyway, they scoped him top and bottom on the 1st March, haven't heard anything yet in regards to the test for MAP, they did say they would test for it but that it is very hard to test for, it hides itself very well. I'll keep you posted as to any results that come through and how the Anti-MAP medication goes.

I'm very curious about this as well. I assume from your name that you're in Australia - is he being treated at CDD? I know that MAP is very slow growing and can take over a year or more to show up in a culture so that's why they treat before finding the results in most cases - I think Dr Barody feels so strongly that most CD is caused by MAP that he feels it's worth starting treatment before testing. Keep us posted, I hope your son responds well. Which antibiotics is he taking?

Yes that's right we are in NSW, Australia and he is seeing Prof. Borody at CDD. Prof. Borody has started him on Rifabutin, Clarithromycin, Clofazimine and Metronidazole. He only started this new treatment 4 days ago so it is very early days. Shall keep you posted. Just hope it works and doesn't mess him up, he is in Year 11 so the next 18 months of school here are very important years for him.

We have just joined this same site yesterday and I assume from your name that you are also in Australia. Our son is 11 years old and had crohns confirmed in January. We to are looking at information on MAPS treatment as this has been advised for our son. As I read down it is from the same place that you have attended. Please check out my post yesterday and would love to hear what your experiences have been.

Another question for you, has he also spoke to you about remicide and the hydro chamber.
