I just had an ileocolic resection for my Crohn's disease (which I've had for 14 years). The Dr was hoping to do a laparoscopy but it got more complicated, resulting in open surgery (laparotomy). This was about 2 weeks ago. It was healing alright until I got home and unfortunately I got an infection by the top of the scar, which they had to open up.
So now I have a 3 inch by 1.5 inch open wound (I've learned this is called wound dehiscence). I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I'm lucky to have a visiting nurse help pack it. Still, it's a bit overwhelming to see and frustrating that it will take a few weeks to close up. Any suggestions or ideas to help the healing process? I hear eating proteins as well as vitamin A and C are good for this. Thanks for the support!
