My boyfriend has never really been sick a day in his life but is now recovering from emergency surgery!
He has been sick for days, since he had an EGD and Colonoscopy to find the cause of cramps and rectal bleeding. This is normal for me as I have Crohn's Disease, but absolutely new for him.
Apparently the scopes or the bowel prep triggered a gallbladder attack in him. We saw the GI this afternoon who ordered a CT scan and a surgery consult for Monday. The GI told us that if his symptoms got any worse to call her after-hours answering service then to head to the Emergency Room.
He woke up just after 1:00AM with severe cramps and vomiting/heaving. As instructed we called the answering service who notified our GI (he decided to see the same GI that treats my Crohn's Disease) and went immediately to the Emergency Room. By 2:30am he was taken to the operating room for emergency surgery. He had some minor blood loss but nothing serious and is now recovering in his room.
I was an emotional wreck all throughout the surgery and especially when I had to phone and wake his mother to let her know that he was in surgery! That is probably the most heartbreaking call I have ever had to make in my life!
I am just over-joyed that he did well during surgery and that he is with me again.
I am especially greatful for the hospital and surgeon who allowed me to go to the recovery room so that I could be there when he first woke up!
