It's been quite a while since I last posted. My boy has been thriving for the last 2 1/4 years on remicaide. Even though the symptoms have disappeared, I know the disease is still there. Remi only treats the patient, not the condition. Alberta has started a clinical trial on antibiotic treatment for children on multiple meds. My boy is on remi only(my decision), so he doesn't qualify. i still believe that there is a huge bacterial component. Like ulcers, it's just not uncovered yet. JMHO.

Congrats!! It must be wonderful to see him thrive as any child should. I hope he stays well on remi until there's a better med (won't be too long) or better treatments (or dare I say, a cure). Do you have the link to the study in Alberta? I'm interested (though my daughter wouldn't qualify either).

Great news!!!

My Daughter will be starting Remicade in about a month. The GI is quite insistant on combining it with her current Imuran dose. She told us that it was to prevent anti-bodies to Remicade.

Maybe this is something for you to discuss with your GI?

Our concern was cancer. Everything that I've read shows that terminal side effects only appear when remi is used in conjunction with other immunosuppresents. I know chances are slim but we are still paranoid.

Oh believe me, we're every bit as paranoid. She was very reassuring, and she did say that she might reduce the Imuran dose to 50mgs at some point. Still, it certainly in the back of our minds.
