Remicade

My doctor would like me to start taking remicade. Does it also help with severe knee pain? Will it get rid of a fistula?

Remicade is supposed to be very effective with fistulas. It almost healed mine (until I got c. diff. twice in 6 months, but that was unrelated). If your knee pain is CD related, then it should help with that as well. I've really appreciated Remicade a lot; it's helped me be mostly in remission (I'm pregnant, so that's thrown things a bit out of wack).

I am not really sure. I know that joint pain can be a fairly common symptom with CD. I imagine that if they get the other CD symptoms under control and your knee pain goes away, then they can assume the two are related. Have you had any x-rays or scans on it?

I had Remicade for fistula's after the first infusion I noticed within a week that a small fistula had started to heal, but had a reaction on the 2nd infusion so had to come off it sadly :0( I have recently had all fistula's surgically removed. Just hope they stay away horrible things to deal with! Wishing you all the very best with your remi infusions xx

My Daughter has recently started Remicade combined with Imuran, which she was on previously for 4 years.

The reason that your GI wants you to combine the two, is that more recent evidence has shown that taking another immunosuppressant along with Remicade will help reduce the liklihood of developing anti-bodies.

They've also concluded that the risk of adverse reactions is only increased minimally with the combination.

The information they have on the Internet is scary. I just read an article that combining the two increases your chance of getting cancer by six times. Ugh!
