I took a stressful job in Dec 11' and was transferred to Oklahoma City in Dec 12' in a very stressful office with management that I am not sure about and my worst fears have come to pass..I have gone into a bad flare..new doctors..I am worried about my job being in jeopardy and wondering if I might end up getting fired or if I need to go on short term disability..I am so weak..I missed work 3 out of 5 days..The one day I had to leave early because I was so weak and sick..I went to an urgent care center that was caring after my regular doctor's receptionist told me to go the er and find another doctor because they were not equip to treat me..The urgent care doctor had mercy on me and changed my meds and is getting me in touch with a good GI she stated..She changed my antibiotic and took a culture to make sure it would work on the bacterial infection, gave me phenergren syrup with codeine for nausea and diarrhea, and upped the predisone to 50..feeling alittle better today but was out of energy half way through the day and did not go to work..I am upset because I did so well for so long..I really need the option to work from home when I am bad like this..What if I get fired and lose my health insurance>>, it happened once many years ago, my husband just went back to work after being off work due to a back problem and a bad bout with bi-polar so our finances are tight with 3 of my four kids living at home..I have not felt this bad in years..dd..

Hang in there hun... I am in the same boat... I work in healthcare but do not get healthcare coverage because I am a casual employee ... I am on medical employment insurance benefits which you only get for 4 months and they are 55 percent of ur wage... I also have a 4 yr old daughter... hang in there.. I just had surgery june 7 and want to go back to work asap, but I just got some more bad news from the surgeon. you have to put yourself and health first. I know you still need money to pay the bills, but sometimes you cant do both. maybe look into disability coverage? government disability (in Canada its part of the old age security pension program) etc. it has helped me... I still have my job but will only go back when I am able. its been than coming and going and being unreliable right? hang in there.. I know this disease makes us curse all that it seems to mess up in our life

Sorry,  that you are going through a hard time.  While I don't have a job to worry about, I can relate to being better for a long time, then going back into a flare that won't quit.  As long as you have a doctor's note saying you were sick, can they fire you?  I don't think they can around here, but I'm not really sure.  I do hope that you will be able to come out of this flare and go into remission.  Best of luck.

My husband had a decent job last time I was very sick..I have had a long stent of being able to work and finish my degree. I do have short term and long term disability with my job..My job is just lots of hours, high stress, and management that do not care..When you have Crohns and have been moderate to severe you know you can at some point slip back..but when it does happen it does not make it easier..I should have established good medical care before this happened so it is somewhat my fault..I saw a gp in the smaller town I live in a couple of times since I have been here that really stank..I work in a bigger city that does have decent care..I am just scrambling now and sick..I was lucky when I was very bad before that I did have an employer that was caring and compassionate. I could take my files and work them from the toilet..I had the option to take a job with extensive travel a couple of years ago and chose not to because I was worried if I did flare I would be screwed..I really need the option of a job I can work from home when I am like this or flex hours..I did get a call from urgent care today and the culture was not CDiff and the antibiotics should clear the bacterial infection..I forgot what 50mg of predisone felt like..I have a few more days before I can taper..The phenegren syrup does have the nausea and diarrhea and pain under control..I am just feeling extremely week..A low grade fever kicks in by afternoon as well..This is typical when I flare..I know I am structuring because of the constant intestinal noise, pain, and nausea..I just feel extremely weak right now..so I am of no use at work or at home..uugg..

{{hugs}} I hope you find a good GI soon and get your flare under control. Hopefully the prednisone will help!

I forgot what 50 mg of Predisone felt like..I am a mess..I went into work for alittle bit today..I am feeling so weak and I have totally lost my appetite..I hope I can go to work all week next week..If not, I will have to figure out what I need to do..

Cindy, sorry you are having a hard time! When I go downhill I stop eating solid food and go on Ensure. It seems to help very quickly, even though it's not easy to change eating habits. Hope you can get off of the pred and things will be looking sunnier soon.

I feel your pain. After my third hospitalization in 6 weeks I just put in the paperwork for short term disability. It is actually devastating for me because I have put so much time and effort into my career and schooling and feel awful dropping it all so last minute (I work with families of preschoolers and preschoolers with disabilities and have great relationships with many if my clients). But your health has to come first or you are of no use to anyone!

At this point I just looked at it like I was doing a disservice to my employer and clients randomly calling in sick for weeks at a time and my health is so unpredictable at this point I am become very unreliable. I think you need some time off to get your health under wraps and then return to work. Just look at this as a small bump in the road. Good luck with everything and keep in touch!

I guess that is some of it..I do not like to be looked at as unreliable..I don't like the looks and stares..I like to be in control of my daily life what I do and when and get my self-esteem from that..This dd and the when and how long and severity affects me not only physically but emotionally..I did not feel well when I woke up this morning and it is well is it the flare or the high dose of Predisone..Can I get this under control? How am I going to feel the rest of the day? How am I going to feel and function tomorrow?? Do I need to be proactive and look at my short term benefits and feel defeated? What drug options and side effects am I looking at now? How long is this going to last this time? I just want to feel normal like myself..My husband wants to go out later today..Am I going to be able to feel up to it?? What about work tomorrow?..I have a job that requires me stay on top of things and deal with live people that are not happy alot of times..When I was checking my voicemail yesterday, I had an irate person..I needed to call them and communicate that hey your roof is worn out and we are not covering your loss..I felt sick, and I am like I can't deal with that today..This may escalate to my boss on Monday, and she will not be happy that I did not take care of this on my own..Usually when I am feeling better, I can bite that bullet..
