My mom has a friend whose daughter was just diagnosed with CD, and they are convinced that it was caused by long-term use of her birth control Yaz/Yasmin. My mom thought that was interesting because that's what I took for almost 7 years before I got a new doctor when I moved, and the doctor said they no longer prescribed it because of lots of bad side effects. So I was just wondering if any of you took Yaz/Yasmin as birth control?

Yes, I know we don't know what causes CD, but I thought it was interesting that she and I both were diagnosed after years of using it. Yaz/Yasmin has had tons of lawsuits for causing pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, stroke and heart attack.

Wow I never thought about it... But I was on yaz until 2 years ago... Just dx w crohns

I am completely convinced yaz played a huge part in my crohns. I was on yaz for 10 years and only went off when I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease 6 years ago. I have moderate to severe Crohn's disease.

I was on Yasmin for years and now I am awaiting tests for Crohn's disease or others. I stopped taking Yasmin on June 27, 2013 after I had to have an ischiorectal abscess drained. It was so painful and I was determined that day that I was going to stop everything that was bad for my body. So I quit my birth control pills and stopped smoking that day. I have also been modifying my diet. Its weird though because I am not sure what symptoms I am feeling due to what. What I mean is "is this happening because I stopped taking yasmin or because I quit smoking" etc. I still have not gotten a period yet and it is now October 02, 2013. I have taken pregnancy tests and they are not positive (although you do have to have sex to get pregnant! lol) I agree with you that Yasmin could be the culprit for many wrong things that have happened to our bodies and it is really sad. I am not sure if it causes Crohn's disease but it probably contributes to it!
