Hello cronies ~

I was diagnosed w/crohn's in 2010. I am doing well and on 2 pills of budesonide. my teeth, my teeth, my teeth....??

i have a very infected tooth or it's the gum under my bridge. my bad that i have not flossed under there for months. didn't know i could get under there?? da! finally did it last night and the PAIN is terrible today! had to take tylenol w/codine last nite cause i could NOT sleep? can i take a z-pak to get the infection to go away w/o it giving me D??

i'm not suppose to take antibiotics per my gi but in this case i may have to? waiting to hear from my dentist who is OUT today and they want me to baby it until tomorrow morning ---------gzzzzzzzzzzz! really?? they are calling her at home?

help? tks so much!

I had an abscess in my mouth from eating popcorn. That was a long time ago but I still worry whenever I eat popcorn 35 years later!

You will need to take an antibiotic. It might be possible to negotiate among different abx treatments. You will probably also need the dentist to work on this abscess. Sorry!

Any abx is likely to give you D, although the last time I took some (minor surgery on my hand) I didn't get D, just a vaginal yeast infection. You can mitigate some of the risk by doubling up on probiotics (more yogurt) before, during and after your abx treatment.

How long have you been on budesonide? It's not meant to be a long term treatment, and if you've been on longer than 6 months this might be partly the cause of your gum troubles.

tks so much...doc ordering 3-day z pak and seeing her in the morning to determine the cause. i've been on budesonide since 2010. doc wants me on 6 mp but i've been stalling as i do not want to deal with side effects - hair loss, excess tired?? it's always something??

but have had so much teeth issues....it's time to re access?

btw...i take 75 billion probiotic daily and will get more yogurt while taking z-pak!

You should not be on budesonide longer than 6 months. Three years is way too long. Besides the problems in your mouth, long term use of steroids can increase your risk of osteoporosis, adrenal insufficiency, etc. Yes, you need to find another treatment approach for your Crohn's!

GI's will often treat IBD with antibiotics, it's kinda strange yours feels differently about it. Hope you find relief soon, mouth pains are no fun.

thank you for your post. it seems when i take antibiotics, i attract c-diff?? big ug? but when my cheek is swelling fast, i have no choice but to start antibiotic!

bee propolis caps 500mg one cap twice/day...what does this do?

NancyP, those are NOT guaranteed side effects of 6MP, they are POSSIBLE side effects.

Did you bother to check the possible side effects of budesonide before you started taking it? Are you even aware of the long term side effects of budesonide?

In my estimation you've chosen the worst, most dangerous of the two drugs to "maintain" on.
