I had severe diarrhea and developed a rectal fissure, or so it felt like.  Now when I pour it feels like acid going over a cut in that area.  Since it continued I made an appointment with my GI.  He did a physical examination of the area, and didn't say much, only that I have a flap or skin tag and that he thought maybe the crohn's was acting up.   He did not prescribe anything to help.   He ordered a  CT scan, which shows no change from last year.    Does an abdominal CT scan, scan the rectal area as well?

Sorry you're in pain. I can't answer that question. You replied to a post of mine. I was wondering if you could provide more information as to why. Thanks. bandit1

Dorri, sorry that you are suffering. Which type of CT scan did your GI order? Normally, when my GI does not want to perform a colonoscopy, he orders an enterocolonography CT. May be he wants to perform it as a kind of check up. As far as I know, I underwent MRIs to investigate perianal abscesses and fistulas and not a CT. For me, what you are describing is an anal fissure. Apply lidocaine and have sitz baths. These are not harmful and don't require a doctor's prescription.

Yeah, MRIs can show up things in the perianal area, but I'm not sure about CT scans - sorry!

I made a post sometime last year about excruciating pain after going to the toilet. I self-diagnosed anal fissures, but admittedly I never got a doctor to examine that area. Even passing a teensy bit of diarrhoea was agonising; it felt like a million tiny shards of glass were embedded. I tried rinsing the area with warm water rather than wiping with toilet paper and dabbing it dry as gingerly as if I was defusing a nuclear bomb, but nothing worked. The only thing which gave any relief was going on a course of Pred, during which time I suppose the vastly reduced number of BMs gave it time to partially heal.

I don't advise Pred to treat it, so try prescription creams (probably better than OTC stuff) and sitz baths. I eventually got rid of the problem permanently through colectomy surgery, but I don't advise that either :-/

I have the exact same feeling; however I have a little bump beside my bumhole that I believe is the culprit of the burning. I think I may have a fistula. It does not burn with ever bm, but most of them. Have been scared to go number 2 most times! Really sucks.

I understand, it is so painful.
For years I always had a hard tender lump there, always figured it was a swollen hemorroid or something. Sometimes it burned and itched for a bit. The swelling went up and down over the last couple of years if not longer, but the lump always persisted to some degree. This time was different. I started with severe diarrhea in the spring, and that is when the all the anal problems got worse. I was sure that I had a cut right around the tender lump. I know it was draining. Now the burning pain is some what better, but not gone, but that lump I had all this time is gone...to flat. I can't feel it anymore, but the area still burns and feels like I'm passing glass on some days.

Is it draining pus? Mine has been for 2 months! Right after I started healing up from my abscess being drained this thing popped up on the other side! One surgeon looked at it and said it looked like a wart and my family doctor has no idea what it is. I am going to sit in a different hospitals emergency room tomorrow night and wait and hope someone can look at it and figure out what it is. I have a feeling it is a fistula. Your thing may be as well; however just closed up at this time and thats why its flat or seeming to go away. A fistula is a hole. I get this pressure around the bump and then I feel it drain and it feels so much better. I just want it gone! So depressing to live each day with a draining bum and having to put gauze in between my buttcheeks everytime I use the bathroom (which is at least 4-5 times a day!) I told my mom the other day I would give up a million dollars to just feel normal and also have a normal poop :) hahahahaha.

Sorry that you or anyone has to go through all these complications. My drain was very watery with browny grey fluid, but I don't recall there being any blood other than at times, it was just little bits on the toilet paper.
Yah, what most of us would give for a normal poop and to feel normal, lol? Hope you get your problem healed up and feel better soon...hugs

Thank you, hugs to you as well. I have not had any blood drain either and now that you mention it the drainage of mine is sometimes yellow, but also sometimes grey. More often grey. I think you should ask for an MRI. If they cannot figure out mine tomorrow night I am going to request an MRI to see if it is a possible fistula.

Is this an internal skin tag or id it external? (if you can feel it, get a mirror and check it out). A skin tag is what they consider a "Crohn's marker". I've had one for years and always thought it was a hemorrhoid and almost had it removed (this was like 10 yrs before I was diagnosed - thank goodness I didn't because if you have Crohn's and try to remove a perianal skin tag you risk a flare because the area is now inflamed and they will come back, but more than one!!

If it's not a skin tag but indeed a fistula get that checked out asap before it becomes infected - I don't think skin tags drain.

Mine (I can't believe I write stuff like this on the internet) is usually fine but when I have a flare it becomes engorged and hurts like hell - I also get a fissure (a small crack) at the bottom of the skin tag, which is very painful.

Try pouring water over it while you are having diarrhea and also ask your GI to prescribe you some hydrocortozine with lidocaine, the highest strength they'll give you (usually 3%, 0.5%) - it only helps a little but that with sitz baths is really all you can do. When I have a flare if I'm not in bed then I'm in the bath. Hope that helps.
