I have been lurking here since diagnosis in 2006, the help has been awesome. I had a resection, small bowel, this past December, pancreatitis from 6mp and now I am on Humira. I feel my Crohn's is still active, since they did not remove all disease with surgery....too much. My GI wants to do pill cam again, but surgery was because it got stuck, and my husband is scheduled for
open heart surgery. I have had one infection after another (uti) and have been on antibiotics off and on for eight months, due to Humira, I think. Now, finally my question....would it be unreasonable to stop Humira?

Sorry Inxspoo....
CanadaMark supplied this link in a previous thread:

There's interesting information about
testing for effectiveness of Humira (and Infliximab), and about
taking pauses from medication.
There is a dummy pillcam that can be used first to check if it will pass through. Or perhaps a colonoscopy (horrible as they are) would suit you more?
Good luck. The antibiotics are no doubt wreaking havoc with you...hope you can get a break.

Indisposed
Are you sure your pancreatitis was from 6mp? You know the cd can cause that to.
i would be hesitant to go off the Humira as it may result in the CD getting worse. Also I don't know your situation but there could be other reasons for getting UTI. Females without CD can have problems with UTI. My daughter is one of them. She has repeated UTI s and takes awhile to shake some of them.
Is there not another test option for you. If the pill cam was a problem before I wouldn't want to do it again either.
Ask your dr about
adding methotrexate injections. The combination of Humira and Methotrexate worked well for him for awhile.
Good luck

I'm sorry the response may seem slim, but for me, I haven't used Humira so I didn't read this until just now. Your question was is it unreasonable to stop Humira and it's a very valid one. We run great risks taking meds that shut down the immune system, and it has to be weighed by the good it's doing.
I know only you can answer that for yourself, but I am one who has stopped taking 6MP, Asacol, Entocort, and long-term prednisone, partially because I was getting other infections and starting diabetic symptoms. I also lost my insurance at one point and couldn't afford to be on them. I'm sure many thought I was crazy, well, actually I am but that's another issue.
I'm surprised your GI would want to do a pill cam when you had to have surgery to remove one?! I know he'd have a hard time catching me under those circumstances.
You've got your hands full with your husband's surgery right now. I doesn't seem like a good time to humor your GI. I know being a patient taking care or another patient is extremely difficult. I wish you well and hope you can come to a decision that's right for you. -Joy

thanks All,
I had an appointment with my GI today. he is sending me to a University Hospital for an MRI from a specialist in Crohn's. he has convinced me to stay on Humira until this test and the blood antibody test results are in.
I am, like everyone, just tired of this DD.
thanks for the replys, I feel better to not be alone in all this.
this is an awesome place because you all Get It!!
