If you're on Cimzia, do you take Imuran too?

Saw my GI today and he said he prefers to not have people on both, due to the immune issues, but we're going to try it for awhile and see if it can kick some of my issues.

I know in Remicade, it was typically suggested to take in combination with Imuran but I suppose that may not be the case anymore (it's been a few years since I was on it).

Do you take it?

My GE would've put me on Imuran too if Cimzia didn't work well enough, which seemed to be the case until about two months ago. He also said he doesn't like to have patients on both, since side effects "stack up", but they're still pretty minimal usually.

I have been on Cimzia since June along with Methotreate .6ml injection.  I really cannot tell a difference in my symptoms.  They have not stabilized since right after I had my third bowel resection in June, 2006.  My GI is wanting to try Tysabri next, but I really don't want that.  I have done all the biologics and Cimzia was my last hope.  I was on Humira for three years, and it helped some, but lost it's effectiveness even after weekly injections.

Aimee, My GI has the same opinion as yours...that new studies are saying it's best not to have people on both.  MaggieLou, from what I've heard/read, mtx is okay with the biologicals (we tried it for arthritis but it elevated my liver enzymes), but not imuran or 6mp anymore.

I have been on Cimzia since March, all crohns symptoms still going strong so my do. Added 100mg of imuran about 3 weeks ago. It helped get the pain under control, but I feel awful. Really bad headaches almost all day, nausea, balance issues, fatigue and increased bm to sometimes 5 xs an hour. Today I adjusted imuran down to 50 mg so I am hoping the side effects get better. I have suffered w crohns for about 25 yrs. 4 bowel resections, lidos tony bag for 2 yrs, Remicade, Hurmira, 6mp, pred, Cimzia, imuran. Some treatments work for awhile, but this Cimzia/imuran therapy is killing me. Any suggestions?

My son is on Cimzia and like you not having the desired results. He is also taking Flagyl, Lialda, and pred tapered at 10mg every other day. He's tried Humira, Remicade, ad Imuran and all the other typical CD meds.

His Dr is not opposed to combo treatments now. Ten years ago he was opposed to them. However, he would not put Cimzia and Imuran together. We just had that conversation a week ago.

Have you tried Cimzia and Methotrexate combo? My son had some success with Humira and Methotrexate.

I have been on Imuran for the last 12 years, all with Remicade, Humira and now Cimzia. This is probably the best I have ever felt except for joint pain now that it is getting cold. Also had my second resection in Jan of 2012 so that being, neither one stopped the disease, not sure anything will, just try and hang on day to day. Good luck with whatever you choose.
