......is listening to my 4 month old cry for me in the other room, and I can't go to her because I'm stuck on the toilet with awful cramping, bleeding, and D, for 20 minutes. It made me cry, but there was nothing I could do. I couldn't get up, and she just wanted her mommy.

Can you put a carseat or bouncey chair by your bathroom door? When my first baby was born I did this and it worked out great for both of us. It let me make the mad dash to the toilet without having to leave her behind. Then I could hold her or put her in the seat and she was with me and didn't cry. I ended up doing this with my two other kiddos too and it eliminated a lot of stress on me and baby. My kids and I have spent quite a bit of time together in the potty. I completely understand. A few tweaks and you and baby will be smiling again. Hang in there girl!

Try not to feel bad about
this, it's much harder on you than on the baby whose nature it is to cry. They won't remember anything except for what a loving mom you are.

Exactly Big Betty. Try not to let the guilt set in Scifi-I know easier said than done. I didn't have crohns but there were times especially when I was pregnant with my 2nd & my 1st was 6-7 months old I spent lots of time in the bathroom. Their cry is heartbreaking when you can't get to them.
If you have a remote control mobile and can turn it on from the bathroom it could help too. It helped me keep the crying at bay -

Been there done that and I know it is not easy. When possible I would bring my daughter into the bathroom with me, even thought that is not ideal.
My daughter also helped me heal and see the bright side of things - even as an infant. I got sick about
2 months before she was born and I had 7 surgeries by the time she was 2. We would drive by the hospital and she would point and say "mommy's home". Talk about
making you cry! She was the only child in Wal-Mart who knew while looking at toys if mommy said I have to go to the bathroom that meant put down the toy and go now. She knew we would come back, but she knew there was no time to fuss either.
I focused on all the things we would do once I was better and that helped me a lot!

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the support that I can find on this group. I've been trying to bring her in with me. This time was just rough because we were cuddling while she napped (she's been traumatized since I was in the hospital and has become extremely clingy). The urgency hit and I laid her down, but about
a minute after I got to the bathroom she woke up. I had thought she'd stay asleep. That's what made it so hard - she woke up and Mommy was gone again. She has been having night terrors since the hospital stay. Poor thing.

I'm so sorry for you and your little one
I hope you gain remission soon and for a very long time so you can be there for her. I really wish this for you from the bottom of my heart.

I'm sorry. Thats tough. I'm a mom too and really struggling with my 20 month old. He doesnt get why mommy cant listen o him yell all day. My 5 year old is a little better, she understand but...she's a child, it makes her sad that I'm in too much pain to play my little pony or run upstairs to fix the computer or make
cookies with her.

I feel your pain. Its hard having babies and CD
My girls are now 17 months old and they sit on my lap while I am on the toilet.
Its so hard in the morning because I make them breakfast and have to run to the toilet and then about
a min after I put them in there high chairs I have to run again but have to fight it so I don't leave them alone in the high chairs. ugh

isergodur- do you have crohns? I have my colonoscopy on Friday and that sounds exactly like me. My kids know when I wake up in the am I have to go 4 or 5 times and it's awful. It's excruciating pain to go. I have always had lower back pain that about
kills me when I go. Didn't realize that those things were related.

Hey thanks! We just upped my Remi this week to 10 mg/kg every 6 weeks and next month we'll do a fecal matter transplant. I'm hoping between the two, things will smooth out for a while. :) But it's now been almost 4 weeks hospital-free, which hasn't happened since October! I'm loving the family time.

I can understand what you are going through, I had similar problems with my little ones, and Still to this day when my 5 year old ask me to carry her I am not able to because it causes for my colon to swell up like a balloon and the pain and diarrhea starts, sometime is totally worth it to carry her and hold her but some other time is not possible b/c I am already in a lot of pain
Hang in there, you will have more good days than bad days, I promised just hand in there!!!

Oh, I know how you feel. I got so week my baby's first week, I remember not being able to pick her up from the bed and she was under 6lb! But I was blessed with my dear mother to help out.
As some others have suggested, you do have to come up with things that will work around those bathroom moments. I had to keep my child's crib in my bedroom since my master bath is within it. I was like, forget the "experts" on childrearing, I've got to do what works for me.
I homeschooled my daughter and remember when she was school age taking the house phones and using them "offline" to go over spelling lists and such when I was stuck in the bathroom with diarrhea. You'll be surprised what you can come up with when you need to.
I hope you feel better soon.
