I know this sounds like a crazy question. Is there any reason you shouldn't be able to get a tattoo while on humira? My GI told me loudly NO but he does not like tattoos. I want the crohns ribbon and butterfly on my wrist. It wouldn't be huge. Has anyone gotten one an had problems because of the humira?

it probably doesn't interact with meds, i don't think people should permantly mark their body but thats up to you. does anyone ever think of what it would look like when your like 80 years old? i dont think it would be very apealing.

I have one tattoo and will be getting another one. I was just wondering if being on humira made any difference. I am 47 years old so I can make that decision rather anyone likes it or not. I don't think a crohns ribbon and butterfly will look bad at 80. I will still have crohns and a tattoo to show for it. :)

I'm on Methotrexate and Remicade and have gotten a large tattoo without any problem.

I got a tattoo while on cimzia. It just took a little longer to heal, but otherwise it was fine.

Just don't cover any veins that may require an IV someday. Always thinking ahead!

I got one on cimzia and it was fine. if you are worried about infection, keep it small. less chance of infection with work done in smaller amounts, I try to stay to the size of my fist. If I go bigger, I do it in separate sessions once one has healed.

I think it's the risk of infection.....even the smallest infection can get nasty fast when you're on biologics.

A fresh tattoo is a large collection of numerous tiny open wounds, so yeah, it's definitely an infection issue.

You do run the risk of infection and possibly scarring because the skin may not heal properly. If you do go ahead, make sure your tattooist is up on his/her health certifications, and that he/she knows you are being treated with an immune system suppressant. Health department rules may require that they follow certain guidelines in these circumstances and they have a right to be informed.

I got a tattoo when I turned 50. I talked to my GI first and he said make sure I got the tattoo at the end of the two weeks, right before I give myself a shot. I also got the - keep it clean speech. I had no issues. I want another one, but haven't decided what I want or where I want to put it.

I'm with scifigal2k, The risk of infection is not worth it. Not while taking Biologic Therapies. But the No is or should be a stock answer to avoid legal exposure while taking biologics prescribed by the doctor.

Thanks everyone for the replys. I decide I would wait awhile. Humira is working very good right now and I don't want to risk the infection. My daughters were going to get one for chrons also.
