Bowel resection- any info appreciated :)

Hi all, have had Crohns for about 8 years which has mostly been under control until last month. I had a baby in September which caused a flare up- bowel perforation etc which landed me in hospital on a nice big fat dose of steroids. Now I'm on prednisone (was on 50mg, but have tapered to 20mg so far) and azathioprine (50mg). Have been feeling pretty crappy lately with lots of pains (bloating, gas pain, diarrhoea ) unable to eat lots more foods than before, My doctor has talked about a possible bowel resection, and this was even before me complaining about my pains etc!
I am wondering what the benefits of this would be? Possible risks? Recovery time? Is it just better off to continue like I am and avoid the surgery and any possible complications? I have 2 small children (3 months and 2.5 years) and I am worried about recovering and looking after them.

Before I had my 1st resection in 93 there weren't many drugs out there to choose from so I ended up being on a drug for 13 yrs then surgery. Fortunately I got a long 15 yr remission from having the surgery done. The other benefits of it for me was also feeling so well again once I had recovered from the op which was around 4 weeks it was like I had never had crohns in the first place and I was able to get on with life.

Crohnielass- that sounds like it was great for those 15 years. It does worry me (and depress me to be honest!) that after having surgery, you can still need subsequent surgeries.. I wish it was a complete cure!
