Tapering Prednisone and Adrenal Grands? What is the worst thing that can happen?

You should be able to stop cold turkey from 10mg without any problems. I once did 40mg for 3 days, then stopped cold turkey after that (I wanted to be able to enjoy a weekend away at a hotel, and Pred was the only thing which could ensure that). Tbh, I would never do that again; no physical harm done, but I felt rotten for a few days afterwards.

But 10mg is not 40mg, so you should be okay. That said, I cannot see what the issue in staying one more week on the steroids is =/

Trust your doctor. Taper slowly, no matter how stressed you feel. I am now tapering at 1 mg per month. Am down to 6 mg. started at 60mg 7 months ago. I am dreading what may be the consequences as I continue to taper, and after all the reading I've done, I am certainly not going to try to speed up the process. By the way my problem is temporal arteritis, a disease of the arteries in the temple which can lead to total blindness if not caught in time. It is so rare that it happens to only one in 10,000 people. Anyone out there have it? Oh yes, and the ONLY cure is everyone's favorite, good old Pred

Hello....I have been taking prednisolone since 20th December 30mg first month, then dropped to 20 mg/day for another 2 months...I forgot to take them recently and did I feel bad the next day...so then took 15mg/day as felt the preds were harming me, rather than curing any inflammation on the lung...however, the doc had to come out on Monday and I have an infection on the chest, so am now on Doxycycline as well as the prednisolone, but shall certainly ensure I take the 20 mg as prescribed until told otherwise...the sweating at night is horrid and alwasy in the morning my heart races all over the place, so must keep going....we have a lot of stress anyway at the moment as necessary alterations to our flat are due to take place...major construction etc.......so may have to delay that.....just hope my CT high resolution scan on 1st March reveals a healing of the inflammation on the lung, then I can look forward to gradually coming of the prednisolone......good to have this forum as does explain how other folks have reacted and gives a btter understanding of the medication.....The prednisolone was prescribed by a Respiratory consultant whom I only see every 3 months for inflammation on the lung and a small nodule.....to do a biopsy is considered too dangerous, so this is the long haul method of trying to cure what might or might not be benign or malgnant.....a stressful thought at the best of times, but must look on the bright side............and do as told with the medications...thanks everyone for your input, has been helpful reading.....

I can't wait to get off Pred. Been on it continually for over 4 years. I try to get low and WHAM! hit with the flare up that creates a chain reaction of having to increase, decrease, increase, decrease.....I want off this rollercoaster.....So, I'm at 1mg for the past few days. I'm fatigued....Will stay at this dose until my body adjusts, and hopefully the increased dose of remicade and methotrexate will keep flare at bay....What's a good way of reducing from 1mg after being on the drug for so many years?
