NEW TO SITE - Crohns constipation questions????

I have had Crohn's for over 30 years.... Food has always been an issue, and has become more so as I get older. I just had to pay attention to what I ate and when I became ill. As it turns out I can't eat items high in fiber. Lettuce, raw vegetables, and high fiber fruits are the worse items for me. I used to be able to eat popcorn and nuts....no longer (severe pain). Although I've always had constipation issues, I find that now they are becoming worse and I don't go with out some type of help. I'm very afraid of becoming laxative dependent so would be very interested if anyone had any suggestions.

I am fourteen years old and was diagnosed with chrons when i was 12. I only had an inflammation that included vomitting once. But when i was diagnosed my GI doctor gave me a packet full of things i should and shouldn't eat so i recommend that you go and check back with your doctor and see if they have a diet for you because they had a special diet for me. Hope that helps. Oh and things that they said i shouldn't eat included Ketchup, tomatoes, fried foods, greasy food, raw vegetable and dairy product

I have read that milk can be a big culprit for people with Chron's Disease.   Also, I have 3 cousins with Chron's and although it is an individual thing in terms of what you can and can not eat, there are lists of foods to avoid.   Your doctor should have given you this and talked to you about it.   otherwise,  you can just google the Chron's Diet, and see what on the list you can and cannot tolerate.   

Hi there. I started out with D but now am always C'd. I do have narrowing/stricturing in two places: my Ileum and my Descending Colon. I still struggle with the pain, and with regularity, but my Gastroenterologist (G.I.) recommended taking Metamucil AND Miralax:- the Logic behind it is that Psyllium Fibre is water soluble, so it won't block you like Bran can, and even if the Psyliium isn't working, the Miralax will then at least have a healthy stool to help pass along. He recommended Starting with Metamucil for three days before starting the Miralax. I'm starting as of yesterday! I'll keep you posted! Good luck everyone out there - I'm almost at the end of my rope with all of this pain and nausea and weakness - what I wouldn't do for 1 day where I woke-up without pain and had energy!! Someday soon... :)

I'm grandmother to a newly diagnosed 9 year old - Crohn's. He had been on Prednisone and is now constipated. His GI recommended Miralax.
