A friend of mine sent me an email the the other day saying that she had watched a TV show about
autoimmune diseases and how they are being cured in Mexico with a hookworm treatment.
I'll just copy her email here so that you guys can read it in her words. Has anyone heard of this before, or even tried it?
(The HW post she refers to was from 2010, so I decided to start a new thread about
it to see if there is more up-to-date info.)
My husband and I watched a show recently about people with autoimmune diseases. One guy had suffered badly from Crohn's disease for years and was on tons of meds. Then, he (and others) heard about a treatment in Mexico using hookworms. It looked like the dr. puts them on a patch which is adhered to the skin on the upper arm. These worms have completely cured the guy and all the others. After so long (maybe a year or more--I can't remember), the people go back to this dr. and get a new batch of worms. The show said in the old days, people used to get worms a lot just from working in the soil in their yard, touching things about town, etc. Now, it's rare people get worms. Everything is about "sanitizing" , cleanliness, using hand sanitizers, etc., that more and more people are getting autoimmune diseases that people rarely ever got.
I don't remember the name of the show. I think it was called, "Monsters inside of Us"--not sure. That is normally not a show I would watch, but it just happened to be on TV. LOL
I searched tonight on the internet and found out the hookworm treatment is called "Helminthic Therapy". I typed in "helminthic therapy for Crohn's" in the search bar and tons of websites came up. There was a thread on www.crohnsforum.com/ from a Marci that has a young daughter with it. She is doing really well now after the treatment. She lives in rural Montana and had the worms shipped to her. Just as it showed in the show, the worms are applied to the upper arm and then covered with a bandage. The worms make their way through the skin and settle in the small intestine. You don't have to go to Mexico. She said anyone can email her to get the name of the worm provider (the post was a few years old I think) [email protected]
Then, at www.autoimmunetherapies.com/ there is an article on the website called "Crohn's Disease and Helminthic Immunotherapy". What I read was very positive.
At www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=17&m=1914181 there is a thread called, "Helminthic Therapy, Hookworms, Whipworms, and How I Achieved Remission from Crohn's". It's by a Herbert Smith under the Forums and Chat section. He is in remission and did a lot of research on 3 types of treatments. He claims there is an 85% cure rate. His email in the thread is [email protected] if anyone has any questions. He took both worms (hookworms for the small intestine and Whipworms for the colon).
