Had a routine capsule endoscopy in January 2013. Unfortunately the camera became stuck. Before it was decided how and when it would be removed I ended up having emergency surgery for a necrotic bowl. The surgery went well but within hours my organs shut down and I was on life support not expected to live. After eight months in hospitals and rehab wards (two months in ICU) I'm finally home but minus my hands and feet. I would greatly appreciate any input from from people who have had issues with stuck pill cameras.

Omg! I am so sorry you had such a bad chain of events! Thank God you made it through all that! I have never had a pillcam so hopefully someone who did will come along soon.

I have heard others say the pillcam got stuck but never heard of such a bad chain of events! Glad you are now ok!

I hope it is ok I ask- how did the bowel become necrotic and how did you lose your hands and feet?

My God,

This is the most devastating story I think I've ever heard. You've been through a terrible nightmare of events. This all started with a routine pillcam?

I'm sorry that I don't have any related experience with pillcams, but just want you to know how moved I am by your so unfortunate story.

I will certainly keep you in my prayers. I do know that prosthetics have improved incredibly. I really hope that you'll be able to find success in exploring those options.

Thanks for responding to my post and for your well wishes.
We are not sure why the bowl became necrotic - that one is still a mystery.
As a result of my organs shutting down the blood supply to my extremities was cut off, in my case causing my hands and feet to slowly 'die'.
But on a lighter note I'm doing very well - walking with prosthetics, driving and working towards going back to work sometime this year.

I had the pill cam get stuck in my small intestine, which also ended in emergency resection. I had dropped the monitor off to my GI at five pm, then went and ate, by midnight I was in the ER.
My surgery went fine. so sorry you had a hard time. I hope you are doing much better now.

I'm so sorry to hear your story, but I'm glad you are alive....this disease and all it's complications and "treatments" can be so unpredictable and scary!

My cam got stuck. Doc said we'll wait a full two weeks for it. It delivered at the end of the last day. Probably helped along by Miralax otherwise they would have wanted to operate. X-ray showed it clearly. Planning to mount it in a shadow box.

Inxspoo... It's a horrid thing to have happened. Hope you are doing well now? What was the cause of your emergency operation ie was it a blockage caused by the stuck camera or a perforation??

My mom had 5 foot of necrotic bowel to be removed and the doctor said something as simple as bending over could have pinched a section to make it happen.
