My Chron's Disease flared up a month ago to the worst it's ever been. My doctor put me on 100mg of prednisone for 2 weeks. I've been tapering down since those two weeks and have basically ever side effect known to man for prednisone: SEVERE mood swings, depression, anger, EXTREMELY puffy face, hoarse cough, abdominal bloating, hunger, thirst, insomnia, headaches, etc. I have about a week and half left on my taper and I hope all the side effects go away. As soon as my flare up was under control the side effects kicked in so I really couldn't catch a break from being sick. I've been reading that withdrawals begin after you're done taking it. I really hope this doesn't happen with me. I don't think I can take much more of these side effects!!

100mg??? WOW, I've never been on that high of a dose. I was put on 60mg to start last year and I was all over the place when it came to mood swings, hot flashes, insomnia. I couldn't wait to get down so things would ease up.
Yes, you can get withdrawl symptoms even when you're done taking them. It helps to go real slow with your taper. The longer you're on them the harder it can sometimes be. For me the last few tapers I've started getting really bad migraines even after being off of them. Also had loss of appetite and some nausea. My doctor said my system gets all out of whack and takes time for everything to stabilize. But honestly I can't imagine any of my usual withdrawl symptoms being as bad as being on 100mg of the stuff. I can't even imagine how awful that would be!

That's a ridiculously high dose. Even when I was in the hospital with an obstruction they used the equivalent of 80mg by IV and that was only for the first 24 hours. I think you might consider a second opinion from another GI. You didn't mention where your Crohn's is located and what your normal medication maintenance plan is, but you need a more long term plan. I hope you feel better soon

I agree w the others, that's a high dose. I was told I had "severe" disease on the scale of Crohn's fun before my surgery and the highest I have been on is 60mg.
