entocort and rash?

My daughter just started entocort 2 days ago and tonight she has a rash on both arms, and her leg. The rash areas are patches about 3x3 and itchy. Her vision was a little fuzzy today also. This is only the 2nd day on entocort. She took an antihistamine tonight for the rash and is calling dr in am.

Has anyone had these issues?

It would make me suspect the Entocort too. Is she on any other medications aside from the antihistamine? You're doing what I'd be doing--antihistamine and a call to the doctor.

I just had entocort for the first time since I was diagnosed in January to February this year.  I did end up with a dry rash (itchy but not red) on my upper arms.  It went away on its own, but I am glad you are checking in with a doc.  I also had some blurry vision issues that I thought were the entocort....I can't tell if they went away after the entocort because I went to pred and then its allergy season so my eyes are a little off still.

Hope you get some answers from the doc!

thanks JaSanne and HabsHockeyfan. She called and spoke with the nurse who said instead of 9mg take 3mg today and see how she does with that and the antihistamine. This afternoon she has new patches of an itchy rash.... she is calling back tomorrow since they wanted her to call in to set up a plan for the weekend. I don't know if she can stay on this. she can not take pred, tried that last week.

I wonder if it's the fillers in the entocort that is giving her a reaction? We had to have the canasa suppositories compounded because she broke out in a rash from them.

Is there anything else that can help with inflammation other than pred or entocort? She is on pentasa, 3 grams a day.

kicking this back up with hopes that someone will have any ideas other than steroids to help with inflammation.
My daughter has ulcers at the resection site which might be causing her pain, dr not convinced...
In the past 10 days she tried and could not take, prednisone =lethargic and dizzy and then tried entocort= dizzy and body rash even while taking antihistamine to help control rash.
Dr told her to stop the entocort over the weekend to see if it caused body rash, rash is getting better since stopping and no new break outs.

We don't know what other options she could possible have, she is on pentasa 3 grams a day and augmentin once a day. Can a higher dose of pentasa help? Any ideas?

Aw, I'm sorry to hear all of this! I doubt the Pentasa is going to help. My guess is that they will want her to go on immunosuppressives or biologics. How long has it been since her resection? You can ask if there is a generic vs a name brand formulation of Entocort, and maybe she would not be allergic to a different coating. Let us know what you find out.

How old is your daughter? My son is 10. He is on a all formula diet and is healing well and gaining weight. I chose this method because he is young, responsive to it and it has no ill side effects. He also had itching when in the hospital as a result of 2 days of steroids. I thought, no way. He does take a low dose of an immune suppressant. It has no ill effects. He takes an ant-acid when he feels the need.

Thanks gumby, I hope you are wrong. She became gravely ill while on immunosuppressants and high steroids when she was 10. Drs have not wanted to touch that subject since then. Good idea about the brand vs generic, but I thought they were the same, meaning I thought there was only a brand? Have to look into it. Called her compounding pharmacy and they don't do it anymore since it's commercially available.

Kmommy my daughter is 26. We really think it was the enteric coating on the entocort that caused the rash. She had a similar response to canasa.

I couldn't take 6MP due to elevated liver enzymes, but I never tried the biologics. Here's what I found online about Entocort and generics: (still confusing) http://www.drugs.com/availability/generic-entocort-ec.html I hope you are able to sort it all out.
