i've been having trouble sleeping through the night and when i do sleep its not a deep sleep its a restless sleep(tossing and turning for hours). im also geting kinda pale, dont know if i have a iron or vitamin d deficency. i cant see my doc for two months, i've been taking a multi vitamin and 2000 iu of vitamin d. i get plenty of sun each day so i dont get how i could be deficent. any advice on this would be great, thanks.

Hi Rango,
Even if you can't see the doc, can you call and ask for blood tests? It may be good to see whats up.

I've been in the same boat the last two months Rango. I toss and turn, wake up having to pee a lot (I've had two urinalyses done, with nothing found that worried the docs), night sweats to the point where I end up changing clothes in the middle of the night because I've sweated through the ones I'm wearing. The thing that makes this crazier to me is I take sleeping meds (Trazodone) and I've been taking them for the last five years (and they've helped for the most part until now).
I know I have a Vit D deficiency (in March it was 19 and my doc wants it to be 40 or higher) and have been taking 5000iu/day since April to try to get it back to normal. My PCP says that sunlight isn't enough and I can take up to 7000iu/day (as the prescript
ion dose for Vit D is 35,000iu/once a week).
My most recent bloodwork 10 days ago showed that I'm mildly anemic. I had borderline hemoglobin (11.5), low blood urea nitrogen (6), low red blood cell count (3.6), low hematocrit (34%)--I didn't have any iron-specific tests.
Even if you can't see your doc, can you get him/her to place an order for bloodwork? 2000iu/day of VitD may very well be insufficient. Most Crohnies have malabsorption issues, even when not actively flaring. You could also look into some of the herbal/supplements available to help you sleep, such as Melatonin and/or Taurine. I would suggest avoiding sleeping meds if possible, as they are highly addictive (I have never successfully been able to get off Trazodone).
The most important thing though is to figure out what the sleeping issues are a symptom of, which is why I would push for bloodwork now.

I have these problems when my Fibromyalgia is flaring. Cymbalta has put a stop to it for now.

Hey Rango...I agree on getting some blood work done and reviewed. I would also ask about
Potassium. I know when I am low on it, I tend to not sleep as well---restless and cramping muscles and just general jumpy feeling.
Hope you sleep well soon.
