So I have a quite painful toothache. It originally flared up a couple months ago, so I went to the dentist. -rays showed that this particular tooth didn't have an infection but a different one did. (Pain is on the far upper left molar, infection was in the 2nd from far left lower side.) Gave me amoxicillin and eventually the pain subsided. But I did get a date set to have it and a couple others pulled, Nov. 4th.
Late Friday and yesterday I did something to it and the pain returned. It bothered me to the point that I went to the ER, I was attempting to hold out until Monday so I could call my dentist. I told the nurse I had Crohn's, and then later after the Dr. shines a light at the affected area for 2 seconds I eventually get a script for Clindamycin, after filling it I find out that people with CD shouldn't take it. The pharmacist said in her resources there was no such absolute warning but that you should simply be careful and stop if you have trouble.
Naturally I've read horror stories here and elsewhere about how it caused bad flares, hospitalizations, c-diff. etc. So I haven't touched it and plan to call my dentist and GI tomorrow. I figured maybe I would also ask here and see if anyone else had experiences with it. Obviously the people that don't have trouble don't come to the internet and say that so it's hard to say how likely it is to have problems.
With that being said it sounds like something anyone with CD should stay away from. I do fine with amoxicillin and Azithromycin. So I'm sure my dentist can give me that instead, and maybe see if there really is an infection in there, or if I just aggravated the nerve when eating.
