7 years ago I was in a very bad flare of my Crohns. I was put on Humira & It gave me my life back!!!! I noticed positive changes immediately. The induction dose was 4 injections at once. Then if I remember I think it was 1 injection every week. Eventually the dose was 1 injection every other week. Do not get caught up worrying about the possible side effects. Use your energy to be positive & optimistic.
I was on it for 7 years. I have heard that the gold standard in treatment of IBD is a biologic (such as humira) along with an immunosuppressive( such as 6mp or methotrexate) . The silver medal is a biologic alone, and the bronze is taken by an immunosuppressive alone.
I am unfortunately now in a flare. Humira stopped working for me humira. During my course of treatment with Humira, my gasto wanted to add 6MP an immunosuppressive. I did not agree to the additional medication. Now in retrospect, I wonder if I did take the 6mp with the humira maybe I would not be in the situation I am in as my disease became so advanced. I do not have antibodies to now. At this point, I know I must move forward and I have just had my first infusion of Entyvio. I know that this medication has a much longer timeframe to first get results. All I know is that I am suffering now. I hope & pray this will kick in.
So basically I am saying that sometimes you have to just take action.
Do not be sidetracked by extraneous issues.
Dingleerire, I am wishing your son the best and remission is possible.
He is lucky to have a mom who is proactive in his healthcare.
