Hello, New here.. I have been experiencing this pain under my right hip for 10 months. At first thought it was cysts on my ovaries as sometimes they will come and go with my cycle. Then after going to my doctor for the 3rd time regarding the same pain getting more intense he said he thinks this could be my Crohn's. (I have been one of the lucky ones so far and don't often get too sick with it.) Was diagnosed 16 years ago. I have been on Pentasa in the past a few time's. So I called my specialist and went in to see him. He is concerned it may be an abscess and put me on Flagilyn and Cipro for 2 weeks. I have some irritating side effects including this horrible taste in my mouth that won't go away and diarrhea. I want to know what kind of experience you have all had with abscess's and what sort symptoms you had?

Did no one do any imaging like an abdominal u/s? Blood work?

Oh yes, sorry. I have an MRI next Thursday... And have also done blood work, ultra sounds, TB skin test (in case doctor wants to put me on remicade)
I really can't wait for this MRI because I really want to know whats going on. Before being put on the anti-biotics I have some diarrhea and a fever for a couple days.
I just want to hear others stories about what initially happened before finding out it was an abscess. This pain under my right hip is quite prominent... Especially when I am sleeping and sitting... Or when I stand up from sitting it really throbs.
My last Colonoscopy was Oct 2013 and there was no inflammation so I celebrated thinking I was going to be great for a while... Which I was...

He wanted to do another one ASAP, but I asked if we could do the MRI first because as I am sure everyone here feels the same... I ABSOLUTELY HATE having a Colonoscopy!!!! I have been going every 2 years for the last 8 years...

I have had pelvic abscesses in the past. They are also known as collections also. I was in horrible pain with fever and malaise. Do you have any fever? If so how high are the temps. Did you get back the blood work? If you have an abscess / infection, your white blood cell count would be very elevated. It is true that a high WBC could also be indicative of inflammation as one would see in a flare of Crohns or colitis. Also I had severe chills along with the fever.
I have had Cat scans when I had these issues, but I think that MRI can be done . Cat scans give off a lot of radiation.
As far as the flagyl, yes it does cause a horrible metallic like taste in the mouth.
Are you and your Dr. sure it is not a hip issue?

I have a hip pain - it's one of the external manifestations of Crohn's. Abscess pain is different - I have had many abscess over the years, usually it's a swelling at the site of pain. 3 times abscess turned in to fistulas.
