Interesting 23andme free for ibd patients for study

Hey guys, not sure if this has been mentioned on the crohn's forum lately (i mostly hang out in uc).

I guess 23andme and pfizer are doing a study of uc, crohn's, and ibd patients. Essentially, they are giving the 23andme test away free of cost (a genetics test). You still get the results the same, but they are anonymously shared. Usa only.

Please consider carefully, before you do this. I thought this was very interesting and I am curious, so I did this without any real research. After I did the test I then did some research and did not like what I found.
First off this company is owned/was started by the spouse of the CEO of google. Their mission is to the single source of DNA data in the world. Right now, they are doing everything (including giving away tests) to get a huge data set. They say they will aggregate your data but so did google. Their is nothing stopping them from selling your data to your insurance company, your next employer,...
If you do not care that your DNA may be public information, then go for it. If you feel this is private then do not or at least really do some research. I wish I did. I would not do this test with what I know now.

Also, the you give them your DNA and they really tell you little to nothing. It is good for them and potentially very bad for you

I joined this study at 23andme for three reasons - hopefully this will enable researchers to find out the cause/trigger for Crohn's; I am an avid genealogist and had already decided to do a dNA study in the new year. Joining this study is saving me $99. And lastly, I am at an age where it does not matter who might have my DNA info should there be a breach or other matter.
